The Strategy and Corporate Development, Director leads ChannelAdvisor's Corporate Development function. The Corporate Development function is responsible for developing partnerships with third parties in order to support strategic company objectives as well as to drive direct and indirect revenue and bookings growth for ChannelAdvisor.

The Strategy and Corporate Development, Director is responsible for developing and executing the strategy for inorganic growth through merger and acquisition in alignment with ChannelAdvisor's strategic framework. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

The ideal candidate for this role will be curious, entrepreneurial, highly organized and personable with a clear passion for building new things. The day-to-day tasks in this role will be largely un-structured so the candidate must be self-driven, easily able to deal with and overcome ambiguity, and able to build out and execute on a plan of action.


  • Working in close coordination with the CEO and Executive Management Team ("EMT"), develop and execute ChannelAdvisor's merger and acquisition strategy, by:

  • Researching and maintaining a mapping of industry participants and competitors, conduct company evaluations, assess opportunities, and provide insights on industry trends

  • Developing a funnel of potential merger / acquisition opportunities based on strategic priorities (ex. PIM, Analytics, Review Management).

  • Evaluate the viability of these potential targets based on a set of criteria developed by this role and approved by the CEO / EMT (i.e. revenue, multiple, talent, etc).

  • Work closely with the VP of Product and other EMT leaders as necessary to evaluate fitment of potential opportunities and to develop comprehensive analysis of high potential opportunities

  • Coordinate with the CFO and other members of the finance organization to organize M&A financing, analyze prospective target financials and to prepare financial projections for EMT and Board review.

  • Build and maintain relationships with investment banks, VC and PE firms, executives at relevant companies, and competitors to source acquisition opportunities.

  • Enhance relationships with merger and acquisition targets key senior decision makers to put ChannelAdvisor in the optimal position to be successful with any contemplated transaction.

  • For approved merger and acquisition targets,Lead cross-functional deal teams across finance, legal, HR and IT to ensure the timely completion of diligence and integration planning.

  • Execute all aspects of strategic acquisitions and joint ventures from inception through due diligence, valuation, negotiation, closing and integration.

  • Openly providing insights as well as direct and constructive feedback to the EMT to ensure the success of the M&A process.

  • Travel for corporate development duties, including travel to ChannelAdvisor offices and meetings with prospective targets is required. In addition, travel related to potential consulting assignments with prospects or partners can be expected. Generally, required travel is about 50%+ and will vary from month-to-month, at times travel is required with short notice. Some international travel is required.


  • Highly curious, research oriented and fact based approach - someone who constantly is looking for information from a variety of sources to inform the company on trends, opportunities, and to identify targets of interest.

  • Creative, out of the box thinker that is regularly thinking - nearly obsessively so - about how to put together different companies (like ChannelAdvisor + potential targets) to create something amazing and differentiated in the market.

  • Experience of working in a related (software, internet or e-commerce) position, where previous account or partner management or consulting experience in the software industry, retail or related industry is demonstrated

  • Financial analysis skills sufficient to build business cases, assess target financial stature, and design effective deal structures.

  • Ability to influence others, most importantly including Executive Management, through deal memo and business case development, power point, written and spoken word. The decisions that get made will rely primarily on the ability of this role to lead the team to make effective choices.

  • A strong customer service orientation and the ability to form long-term partner relationships. A can-do attitude and the ability to build relationships both internally and externally to accomplish goals.

  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent degree qualification

  • Proficiency using MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Comfort with web-based applications

Expectation & Key Metrics:

  • Delivery of inorganic growth strategy via merger & acquisition

  • Development of a best practice process for merger & acquisition, from target identification through integration.

  • Execution (Deal Closing + Integration) of 1-2 mergers & acquisitions per year that successfully meet criteria set by the EMT in the Corporate Strategic Framework.

ABOUT THE JOB The Senior Director, Publication Strategy plays a key role in the definition, development and execution of an integrated, enterprise-wide publication strategy. The incumbent provides input into the evidence generation plan and strategically delivering on publications aligned to those data objectives. The position partners with FMI cross-functional leaders, as well as FMI partners at Roche and Flatiron to develop a dynamic publication strategy and plan, elevating FMI's mission to transform cancer care. Key Responsibilities: * Publication Strategy Development * Evaluate the Medical Team's cross-functional insights, and use these to design, build and maintain a global publication strategy, publication objectives, and publication activities. * Execute initiatives to align evidence generation and publication strategy across the enterprise. * Serve as a thought leader on and provide gap analyses for FMI's data generation plan and life cycle strategy. * Publication Plan Execution & Program Management * Lead the tactical execution of the global scientific and medical publication plan, by: * Developing timelines; and, * Managing the process for development, review, approval, and submission. * Manage internal and external medical writers. * Direct the process for content development and submission of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and for abstracts/presentations at medical and scientific congresses. * Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Collaboration * Collaborate within Medical functions and across departments and lifecycle teams to drive the publication strategy and deliverables. * Create and advance publication strategy around Molecular Tumor Boards. * Manage internal relationships across functions (including but not limited to Lifecycle, R&D, HEOR, Data Strategy, and Communications teams). * Coordinate the evidence generation and publication strategy with FMI affiliates, including Roche and Flatiron teams. * Manage external relationships with authors and corporate partners. * Establish and drive industry best practices for publication strategy and planning across FMI * Accomplish this through: * Compliance and Standard Operating Procedures oversight; * Policy implementation; * Disclosure requirements; and, * Competitive literature monitoring. * Identify, vet, and implement publication planning systems and technologies to create a central repository of ongoing and planned publications. * Develop a deep understanding of publication landscape and leverage this to facilitate efficient publication processes and relationships with journal editors. * Other duties as periodically assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Basic Qualifications: * MD, Pharm.D, or PhD in a life science. * 5+ years post-doctoral work experience. * Prior work experience in an academic laboratory as a Principal Investigator or Senior Staff Scientist or an equivalent function, or experience in industry scientific, medical affairs, or clinical development leading publications strategy and planning. Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated work experience leading successful publication strategies impacting the healthcare or medical field. * Experience in oncology and/or diagnostics. * Strong understanding of good publication practices and guidance, Sunshine Act, Pharma Code of Conduct, and other guidance related to scientific data communication. * Understanding of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the importance of patient data privacy. * Strong writing, presentation, organizational and project management skills. * Ability to work across multi-disciplinary groups and to lead decision-making discussions. * Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and collaborative skills with individuals, groups, and senior management.
