Strategy and Business Development Consultant

Key Role:

Maintain responsibility for establishing strategic business development initiatives that drive corporate growth through product expansion, acquisitions, partnerships, and alliances. Work with marketing, sales, and technology groups to implement business development strategies into specific initiatives. Consult with legal and administrative personnel to ensure compliance with all product and business initiatives. Prepare proposals and negotiate terms. Work on advanced complex technical projects or business issues requiring state-of-the-art technical knowledge or industry.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience with DHS projects

  • 15+ years of experience with leading complex programs and teams

  • Knowledge of the federal government's acquisition process

  • Ability to coordinate, collaborate, and lead responsibly without hesitation or oversight

  • Ability to show professional-level proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills that can be demonstrated in both public speaking and written formats

POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Manager, Business Development and Strategy is responsible for supporting the identification, evaluation, and pursuit of new out-licensing and in-licensing opportunities plus the foundational analysis to establish and take forward Halozyme's strategic operational planning. In addition, the Manager assumes an active, deal partner facing role in negotiations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These may include, but are not limited to: * Identify and pursue new Enhanze partners to maximize the value of Halozyme's technology and products in a way that increases shareholder value and achieves the company's strategic objectives * Deliver effectively, thoroughly, and independently the Enhanze non-confidential and confidential technical presentation to prospective deal partner * Establish initial external contacts, coordinating CDA and MTA agreements to progress deal flow * Play the first (leading) or second (supporting) chair role for deal partner negotiations, creating the draft term sheet, building consensus with the external counterpart, and articulating the deal value proposition to the CSSC * Provide detailed market and product pipeline analysis and competitive intelligence on a periodic or project basis. * Perform complex financial and market modeling in Microsoft Excel or Access, creating presentation ready slides and graphs to support strategy and business development decisions. * Follow-up on all partnership activity including the tracking, documentation and status reporting of all collaborations along the business development pipeline * Recommend to facilitate partnering and strategic alliance decisions, including design of deal structures and data sourced benchmarks. * Articulate the value proposition for partner and Halozyme * Support supervisor in the formulation and execution of strategies and tactics required to achieve business goals * Coordinate multiple functions at Halozyme during discussions with potential partners including R&D, Clinical Affairs, and Medical Affairs * Support the assessment of in-licensing and out-licensing opportunities, from technical, clinical, regulatory, and commercial standpoint, for both HALO and potential partners * Support the Board of Directors presentation creation for both scheduled meetings and those ad hoc related to deal flow * Develop deep working knowledge of oncology treatments and trends, major developments and trial outcomes, and player activity in the space ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Evaluate, support and lead implementation of new external and internal high-value cross functional new business opportunities. * Support various Business Development, Commercial and Corporate initiatives as needed * Other duties as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: * Minimum Bachelor's degree in a business, quantitative, or life sciences field or related; Master's and / or PhD preferred with 8+ years' relevant experience (an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered) * Must have a minimum of 3-4 years' experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech company or healthcare focused consulting role * Expansive and deep experience with financial and market modeling; pricing experience a plus * Knowledge of the clinical development process and regulatory agencies a plus. TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Equipment: PC, scanners, facsimile machine, voice mail and e-mail systems, and common office machines, or ability to be trained. Knowledge of other equipment required: N/A Software Knowledge: Windows, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
