The Strategic Planning Director (SPD) will provide strategic leadership to assigned accounts, creating a unified strategy across channels that provide a high value add to the client's brand, and selling through strategic visions and programs to clients. As the owner of consumer understanding, the SPD will identify consumer insights and opportunities and translate them into actionable ideas and programs. The SPD is also responsible for supervising the Strategic Planners & Senior Strategic Planners, managing their work, and consulting with them on their projects.

This person is responsible for assisting the Chief Strategy Officer in assessing departmental needs and procuring resources necessary to fulfill department responsibilities, goals, and objectives.

What You'll Do:

  • Be the primary, day-to-day client contact for all matters of strategy and planning, including

  • Leverage CRM best-practices and a deep understanding of the customer and customers' journeys to develop strategies for acquisition, nurture and retention communications and programming

  • Take the leadership role in discovering and articulating differentiating customer insights and translating them into strategic and creative platforms

  • Develop, direct and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research that answers key questions and provides input for insight identification

  • Partner with Account Services to gain client approval to recommended strategic direction

  • Work cross-functionally within the agency to ensure the successful and innovative execution of approved strategies

  • Partner with Account and Creative teams to persuasively sell recommended work to the clients

  • Support the identification and generation of new business and revenue opportunities by working with Account Services, Creative, and Data Strategy on strategic development

  • Participate in new business pitches

  • Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert within the agency, with clients, and within the industry at large

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, or equivalent work experience

  • You have 15 or more years of experience as a Strategist or Planner in the marketing, advertising and/or branding fields creating, leading, and selling through digital, direct and/or integrated marketing strategies and solutions

  • You have an advanced understanding of integrated marketing principles including digital, direct, brand and database marketing

  • You have the ability to synthesize information from various sources to create an actionable point of view and direction for a project

  • You have the ability to translate strategic plans into actionable executions

  • You have Experience managing a team of Strategic Planners with varying levels of experience

  • You are highly resourceful, with strong research skills and a working knowledge of advanced marketing analytics

  • You are proactive and able to work independently

  • You are creative, with first-rate conceptual skills

  • You have exceptional listening and communications skills; a captivating presenter

  • You are resourceful and a relentless researcher/learner

  • You are persuasive with the ability to influence others

  • You are able to work under tight deadlines and have the ability to effectively prioritize

  • You are able to work in a flexible, dynamic and fast-paced environment

YOUR ROLE Role Summary The Director, Network Planning role is a key position at Alaska Airlines plays a significant role in helping Alaska pursue its strategy of working together to differentiate itself and be positioned as a lean and nimble 21st century airline. Scope & Complexity This leadership role sets the long-term strategy of the Network Strategy, Fleet Planning, Capacity Planning, and Future Schedules teams in the continuous pursuit of developing the perfect network and schedule which utilizes the optimal mix of aircraft, the optimal level of capacity allocated in the optimal mix of markets, enables exceptional operational execution, and maximizes Alaska Airline's profitability. Key Duties * Establish strategic goals and direction for a team in a dynamic environment, that requires a high level of collaboration and communication across the entire company. * Develops and maintains the strategy for multi-year capacity plans which incorporate corporate vision, strategic initiatives and operational constraints. * Owns the development of the company's annual Operating Plan and 18-month rolling schedule which drives budget and operational planning. * Leads development of seasonal capacity plans and schedules that are safe, operationally feasible, commercially attractive, and maximize Alaska Airline's profitability. * Partners with internal stakeholders and customers, such as, Schedule Planning, Treasury, Airport Affairs & Development, Revenue Management, and Financial Planning & Analysis to align and execute on business needs. * Leads the commercial strategy of Alaska Airlines fleet portfolio to ensure an optimal aircraft mix in the fleet. * Leads analysis of capacity purchase agreement (CPA) provider economics and ensure Alaska Airlines maximizes value. * Develops and maintains strong relationships with aircraft manufacturers and CPA providers. * Partners closely with Revenue Management and Marketing to ensure pricing and marketing efforts support capacity deployment. * Monitors airline industry events and trends to determine implications to the Alaska Airlines network. * Periodically briefs the Executive Committee on strategic and financial impact of network and capacity planning decisions. * Supports Alliances with analytical support for partner decision making. * Acts as a champion for the planning department and help create a culture of ownership, analytics, and initiative. * Builds relationships with key airport representatives in our system. Job-Specific Skills, Experience & Education Required * 9 years of airline planning, airline scheduling, and/or analytics and analysis experience. * 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people. * A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in business administration, economics, or a related field, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree. * Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including international travel. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy. * Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to drive outcomes in the best interest of the company directly (particularly with direct reports) and indirectly with others in the organization that may be executive sponsors, sponsors, or other stakeholders. * Strong team player willing to participate in a variety of roles and projects. * Exceptional leadership and analytical skills. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
