The Strategic Marketing Analyst Intern completes research and data analysis in support of the Carpenter Growth Process. Specific projects will inform and influence growth strategies and tactics for Carpenter's market verticals. The intern will interact across all levels of the organization, from individual specialists to directors, vice presidents and the Chief Commercial Officer.


  • Prepare analysis of the revenue, volume and profit trends for targeted end market verticals.

  • Derived from databases, determine and report on key performance indicators that are driving sales and profitability performance.

  • Identify and evaluate sub-segments and key customers within each, deriving key insights to share with senior management.

  • Analyze and interpret marketing metrics to identify cause-effect relationships between marketing actions and sales or financial outcomes. Identify positive and negative trends and find the appropriate solutions and recommendations when needed.

  • Complete and present a market analysis of one of Carpenter's key market segments in collaboration with the commercial team.

  • This work could include, but is not limited to marketing toolkit analyses such as: SWOT, value chain analyses, share of wallet, competitive landscape and partnership assessments.

  • Establish external market metrics dashboards.

  • Understand drivers of revenue, create time based metrics charts and establish data sources for regular updating of the dashboard.

  • Maintain and enhance current data sources.

  • Identify opportunities to develop forecasts, statistical models, and customer segmentation to drive marketing efforts.

  • Analyze marketing and sales data to develop insights and make recommendations on areas for optimization.

  • With market leads and product management, recommend specific marketing approaches to support sales growth of products in each market.

  • With product management, identify future unmet needs for customers.

  • Perform all of the above requirements in an independent and reliable manner.


  • MBA student after 1st & 2nd year of study preferred

  • Four year degree in Business, Marketing or Economics with a strong quantitative and analytical background; or degree in Engineering, Management Science or Statistics with a strong background or interest in business, strategy and marketing

  • Two to five years' experience in a marketing, sales or technical role within a global industrial business environment is preferred.

  • Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation development and delivery.

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Description The Strategic Sourcing Manager (Beverages) is responsible for the planning and execution of contracting initiatives that result in successful contracts that support the needs of our customers. In this role, the person will develop a sourcing and negotiation plan for their commodity areas that leverages best practices and sound processes. S/he will oversee a portfolio of contracts and ensure the supplier meets their contract commitments and that customers' needs are being met. Primary Responsibilities * Author Initiative Strategy Worksheets (ISWs) by thoughtfully planning through contract initiatives; manages annual plan by creating realistic timelines and meeting milestones, communicates initiative status * Participates in development teams as needed * Leads effective supplier negotiation and pricing strategy development efforts which integrates Avendra's principles and value proposition * Build and maintain supplier relationships; hold suppliers accountable to deliver contractual commitments Analyzes activity for his/her portfolio of contracts and makes recommendations for improvements Qualifications Role Requirements * General sourcing/procurement experience * Knowledge of selected categories or ability to develop knowledge of new categories. Strategic sourcing experience in food categories is a plus. * Knowledge of process workflow tools is a plus * Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills * Experience negotiating contracts and understanding of the negotiation process (understanding facts, presenting alternatives and thinking creatively). * Ability to be assertive * Ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders * Ability to perform analysis and interpret results into actionable steps; strong business acumen * Ability to manage more than one initiative at once * Strong attention to detail and process orientation * At a minimum intermediate Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
