VIEW JOBS 10/14/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-12T00:00 Position Description What you will do at Precinct One The successful candidate will be highly skilled at writing, reviewing and editing: press releases, newsletters, issue letters, brochures, public policy briefs, talking points, presentations, and digital copy for website, email and social media. You will be tasked with writing compelling, effective and informative multi-channel content to engage and educate constituents, members of the press and other audiences around Precinct One's initiatives, services, programs and community issues. The selected candidate will also coordinate with members of the Communications Department and other departments, as needed, to review and edit copy, develop message guides and assist with meeting other communication goals. Past experience producing engaging written content developed for a wide range of audiences, across multiple channels and platforms, will be instrumental in this role. Requirements What you will bring to Precinct One * Bachelors' degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Political Science, Public Policy or a related field of study. * Five (5) years of experience working in Communications with a focus on content development, copywriting, and editing. * Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. * Proficiency in Microsoft software applications to include Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Superior writing and editing skills. * Ability to effectively calibrate written style, voice and rhetoric based on audience and messaging goals. * Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple content assignments on a quick turnaround in a deadline-driven environment. * Skilled at multi-channel content development for digital, print and press outreach related to public policy, community issues and constituent services. * Knowledge on how to develop and execute strategic communication plans. The department is responsible for developing and disseminating engaging, informative, and creative communications to external and internal audiences that align with Precinct One's priorities and goals, which include: improving and enhancing public services for residents; supporting and strengthening other Precinct One departments; educating and engaging the public about Precinct One's programs and initiatives; and advancing equal justice, fair treatment, social equity and opportunity for all people in Harris County. About Precinct One There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government. With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian and 1 percent other. Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct's territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium.
