Commodities continue to evolve. We need a planner that can tackle the challenge of this fast-paced innovation. What changes do we make and why? When do we make a change and transition? How do we make this change to a smooth transition? How do we ensure we have a winning and competitive commodity portfolio? These are some of the exciting challenges that a commodity planner tackles.

Commodity planning activities include solving common and complex commodity business and technical issues to deliver a great end-user experience. The planner will apply their knowledge of the commodity market, supplier offerings, costs, and availability to create a global winning long-term commodity planning strategy. They will have accountability for commodity innovation, end user experiences, cost, availability, and portfolio commodity complexity. This position will require working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and agencies including product planners, commodity engineers, procurement, and other operational teams. This role will report to the Director of Business Notebook Commodity Product Planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides future-looking and ongoing strategy for commodities; coordinating, managing, and monitoring for opportunity.

  • Communicates project status and appropriately drives project deliverables with direct managers, program managers, and internal and external development partners.

  • Manages relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities for commodity innovation, process improvement, cost savings, and commodity simplification or reduction opportunities.

  • Contributes to development and definition of customer segmentation strategies, tailoring commodity experiences to different customer segments.

  • Applies advanced subject matter knowledge, leads, and contributes to complex projects, and exercises independent judgment in resolving business issues and establishing policies.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.

  • Typically has 7-10 years of work experience, preferably in product planning, product management, or a related field.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong team player with advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with ability to multi-task.

  • Crafting strong product and business strategies using market and customer research.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills.

  • Thought leadership regarding key technologies and industries relating to notebook panels, notebook touch screens, and notebook cameras preferred.
