Job Description

Position: Strategic Analyst, Competitive Strategy

Sector/Department: Corporate Strategy, Strategic Intelligence Center of Excellence

Reports to: Senior Director, Corporate Strategy

Location Negotiable: Dallas, TX - Roswell, GA - Neenah, WI

Position Purpose:

Deliver competitive and industry analysis to business leaders to inform strategy. Provide strategic and tactical vision for the strategic intelligence function. Synthesize insights into meaningful actions by having strong in depth knowledge on the consumer categories in which Kimberly-Clark competes.

Customers:

P&L business leaders needing competitive/business intelligence, as well as related customized analysis. Senior leader sponsored strategy projects. These customers expect visionary leadership, real time analysis and competitive insights to win in the marketplace.

Scope/Organizational Relationships:

  • The incumbent reports to a Senior Director of Corporate Strategy within the Corporate Strategy Office. Work is strongly influenced by the business P&L owners and C-Suite executives. Along with the colleagues of the Strategic Intelligence Team, the incumbent is responsible for providing a full range of analysis to improve K-C's business results. He/she is expected to lead small to medium sized global projects and/or be an active contributor in large scaled global projects.

  • He/she researches and synthesizes the fact base in strategic intelligence projects leveraging several sources of data. Data sources include but not limited to Nielsen market share data, pricing data, Euromonitor, Annual & Quarterly reports, investment banker analysis, financial data, articles, and other secondary and primary resources.

  • He/she helps build COMPASS team and K-C competitive strategy capabilities, in addition to executing targeted projects, by delivering regular new bulletins/ reports, building the COMPASS Portal where resources and information are housed, driving innovation and creativity in our competitive toolkit, codifying lessons learned, processes, frameworks and best practices to be shared broadly across the global organization

Expectations and Accountabilities:

  • Analyze business fundamentals, financial performances, and relative competitive positions to recommend solutions to business problems. Analysis includes competitor rollouts, pricing, promotions, product development, innovation, M&A, divestitures, reorganizations, and advertising.

  • The incumbent will provide analytical expertise and support for on-going analysis with profit pools, risk exposures, end-to-end cost curve analysis, and other financially relevant insights.

  • Analysis of enterprise competitors, business development opportunities, and enterprise trends with a focus on opportunities and threats from a corporate perspective, delivered to business leaders.

  • Leveraging industry standard analysis tools, methodologies, and capabilities using case studies, templates, and software.

  • Conducting interviews, leading brainstorming sessions, find critical business information, and helping business leaders develop innovative approaches to their business

  • Provide analysis and data functions for delivery of strategic sessions and ad hoc business analysis projects via partnering with leaders across the enterprise.

  • Leverage existing and new strategic tools for strategic intelligence.

  • Participate on senior leader level projects and perform advanced business analysis for senior leadership.

  • Interpret results from multiple project components and translates these finding into clear and compelling recommendations and solutions.

  • Be the subject matter expert (SME) on major global competitors, category and financial.

  • Provides analysis and data for strategic tool initiatives (e.g. War Games, Scenario Planning Sessions) or plays the role of competitive subject matter expert for Strategic Sessions.

  • Effectively communicate insights to global constituents.

  • Proactively volunteer and do whatever tasks are needed to complete strategy projects.

  • Champions medium scale initiatives for the Strategic Intelligence function across the enterprise.

  • Responsible for reporting on the ROI for Strategic Intelligence.

Minimum Requirements:

Education required/preferred:

  • Bachelor of Business Degree in Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Operations, Economics, or Strategy with equivalent experience

  • Graduate Degree (MBA) Preferred

Experience:

  • 3-5 years' total experience; Minimum 1+ year experience with a blue chip consulting firm (Bain, BCG, McKinsey etc.); MBA preferred but not required.

  • Progressive work experience in strategy, related business analysis, functional line experience with Marketing, Finance, Operations, or Sales analytics with a history of demonstrated business success; leading the integration and use of analytics and/or strategy throughout a company, analyzing industry competitors, designing and executing strategic sessions, scoping, planning, and leading the execution of strategic projects; management and facilitated use of historic knowledge and deliverables.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong skills and experience with:

  • Translating customer requests into tangible, targeted deliverables

  • Making recommendations on the best analytical approach

  • Performing insightful business analysis with a strong quantitative component

  • Proven business acumen; researching marketing trends, consumer insights, category analysis, financial analysis

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of catering a message appropriately for a given audience

  • Capable of networking successfully across a large company by: building trust, making decisions, winning consistently, thinking customer, continuously improvement, and building talent

  • Ability to work independently

  • International experience with working knowledge of languages where K-C has large operations will be considered a plus. Consumer goods experience and functional background in sales or marketing also a plus.

  • The position is performed in normal office conditions with physical location at one of the 3 major operations in the United States. Preferred: Roswell Campus.

  • Business travel will be based on the project needs and at times may be more than 25%.

The Role: * Cost Modeling: Demonstrate an effective strategy for the generation and implementation of a should cost estimating program. This includes, but not limited to, creation of a cost database and pricing templates to be used in cost modeling. * Quotation support: Responsible for obtaining accurate and timely should cost estimates required to support the costing team's new business. * Cost Reductions: Assist in cost reduction of assigned accounts that align with customers cost reduction targets and Plexus internal PPV objectives. * Contract Negotiations: Steers the negotiations of contracts and agreements, specifically for the should cost estimating program, achieving best purchasing conditions for material at the preferred suppliers to achieve desired spend with preferred suppliers, and working capital improvements. Additional Accountabilities: * Maintain Sourcing and Material Costing roadmap, value stream map and opportunity funnel * Work with quoting team to win business for competitive bid * Maintain the data integrity of material costing systems. Keep supplier table updated as well as support files for total cost calculation, currency conversion, and other miscellaneous maintenance activities. * Assist in providing feedback to Plexus Corporation suppliers as to their competitiveness and timeliness to Plexus Corporation requests. * Maintain/strengthen the customer/supply chain relationship during crucial start-up and transition periods * Interface with Plexus' Customer Management teams and functions within Supply Chain to identify customer's needs and support their supply chain strategies * Drive improvement in the key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with regional and corporate goals. * Is accountable for continuous supplier management (e.g. follow-up on escalated contract violations, phase-in and phase-out of suppliers) * Understand the current component market conditions and effectively communicate it with Plexus and our customers * Proactively develop executive level supplier relationship that result in Plexus achieving competitive costs, terms and availability of supply in all market conditions * Occasional travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated 25%) * Additional duties as assigned. Education/Experience Qualifications: * A minimum of a(n) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field is required; a(n) Master's is preferred * 7 years of related experience is required; Equivalent industry experience of 2 or more years is highly desirable. * Experience within various Custom Engineered Component (CEC)/Mechanicals commodity families such as Sheet Metal, CNC Machining, Plastic Injection Molding, Castings, etc. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.
