Strategic Account Manager

Remotely Based - must live in a larger city near a major airport

WHO WE ARE: Vantage Specialty Chemicals is a leading international provider of natural-based specialty ingredients focused on personal care, food, consumer, and industrial end markets. Currently, there are four businesses based in the United States: Performance Materials (Gurnee, IL and Englewood, OH), Personal Care (Warren, NJ, Linden, NJ and Tucson, AZ), Food (Carnegie, PA and Delta, CO) and Oleochemicals (Chicago, IL).

SUMMARY: The STRATEGIC ACCOUNT MANAGER ("SAM") is a critical member of the sales team in our Oleochemicals Business Unit. This is a newly-created position, due to business growth. The SAM is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and development of business at existing customers, with a strong focus on the identification, development, and delivery of new accounts and business within the assigned sales role. We are seeking a dynamic collaborative seller with a passion for "hunting" and strong connection to their customers and colleagues.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Selling Fatty Acid and Glycerin products

  • Developing new accounts and new product sales at new and existing accounts

  • Driving defined business strategies to grow business and markets in sales territory

  • Keeping current with administrative responsibilities, including daily updating CRM tool, monthly safety audits, proper recordkeeping, visit reports, technical service requests, sample requests, timely submission of expense reports, customer correspondence, monthly price sheets, and in general, any type of written communication and clerical duties

  • Tracking Accounts Receivables and ensuring all accounts are paying according to terms

  • Developing key account plans for top 5 accounts and driving plans to completion, including understanding the customers market drivers and tracking opportunities using the CRM tool

  • Actively using CRM tool to maintain all customer and prospect information, including account contacts, sample requests, and opportunities

  • Harnessing the power of your Vantage Oleo colleagues in the selling situation; coordinating the expertise of Technical Service Specialists, Marketing and Management teams in the selling environment through your sales director

  • Scheduling sales calls and appropriately related entertainment

  • Prospecting new accounts

  • Arranging your travel

  • Using initiative, discipline, and focus on cost effectiveness, works in personal home office to conduct regular daily sales activities when you're not traveling on company business

  • Partnering with management toward establishment and achievement of personal goals on an annual basis

  • Providing updated forecasts from customers to sales director on a consistent cyclical basis

  • Keeping current with industry developments, market condition information and technical developments, by collaborating with your Technical and Marketing Staff, reading trade publications and sharing knowledge gained from field exposure and customer visits

  • Exhibiting a professional sales presence and promoting Vantage Oleochemicals as a global leader in the oleo chemicals industry

  • Supporting the sales training needs for this new position

REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent

  • 5+ years of relevant technical B2B sales experience of Fatty Acid/Glycerin or similar products and/or end markets

  • Candidates who are ambitious, assertive and tenacious, with relentless focus on their customer, will flourish in this role - HUNTERS are encouraged to apply

  • Demonstrated balance of working well independently in the field while engaging and collaborating with colleagues at headquarters

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Accomplished interpersonal and organizational abilities

  • Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time

  • Demonstrated success in directing activity at key accounts, obtaining strong support for your company's products on both current and developmental business

  • Ability to quickly learn key application areas for all major Vantage Oleochemical products and demonstrate expertise in those areas

  • Experience with fatty acid chemistry and/or end markets a plus

  • Strong history of identifying and developing new opportunities for products in your area of expertise

  • Well-versed in using laptop computers for management of your sales territory, internal/external communication via email/instant messaging, as a tool for sales analysis, and for visual aids for sales presentations

  • Prior use of CRM system, Outlook and Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint is a plus

TRAVEL: 40-50% of the time

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to travel extensively by automobile and commercial airliner to visit customers and potential customers; while performing the duties of this job, incumbent is required to sit or stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; required to walk longer distances (airport, customer manufacturing sites), including using stairs; must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; frequent communication by telephone required so must be able to speak clearly and hear well; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus and to work on a computer daily; will be working from their home, which should be free of safety hazards.
