Duties
Stormwater Specialist performs a wide variety of duties as directed by the Stormwater Supervisor and/or Stormwater Inspector, including but not limited to water quality monitoring; collecting storm water quality samples and delivery to laboratory in accordance with established procedures; water quality testing using basic field/laboratory equipment such as pH meters, rain gauges and field test kits in accordance with established procedures; assisting Stormwater Inspector with inspections of businesses and industries for stormwater compliance; responding to storm water quality complaints and questions; monitoring and documentation of sanitary sewer overflows; assisting with public awareness work concerning stormwater issues; operates basic laboratory equipment; compiles written reports of investigations, findings, corrective action and recommendations. Prepares letters. Utilizes GIS/GPS equipment and software to accurately locate sites. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1.Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry or biology or other appropriate field.
2.Must possess valid Louisiana driver's license.
3.Preferred to have certification in the appropriate storm water field, awarded by a certifying body recognized by the U.S. EPA and/or Louisiana DEQ for MS4 training compliance within 3 years of employment.
4.Must have communication skills necessary for contact with industrial/commercial facilities and the general public.
5.Physically capable of performing essential duties as described
Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy to moderately heavy objects and materials. Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Work Environment
Tasks are performed with risk of exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as temperature and noise extremes, wetness, humidity, animals, insects, toxic/poisonous agents, strong odors and various industrial activities.
Normal Promotion Path From This Class
Stormwater Inspector, or any higher class or level for which eligible and qualified.
