Stormwater Quality Specialist

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's growing Watertown, MA team is looking for a water resources professional to join its dynamic team of Water Resource scientists and engineers and support our growing water quality and stormwater regulatory compliance work. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a cutting edge, innovative team of multidisciplinary professionals.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for stormwater regulatory compliance programs for state and local government clients

• Perform field investigations including, but not limited to, stormwater system inspections, construction site inspections, stormwater system mapping, and water quality sampling

• Develop data management tools in ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Online

• Collect, analyze, and interpret data to support water quality studies and plans

• Develop innovative approaches for internal and client workflows

• Prepare technical reports, graphics, and guidance documents

• Support the development of federal, state, and local permit applications

• Support stormwater program funding approaches, including preparing grant applications and developing stormwater enterprise funds

Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

• Highly motivated

• Ability to solve problems and think creatively

• Detail-oriented and highly organized

• Team oriented with strong capability to motivate others

• Familiarity with environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Massachusetts MS4 Permit, and Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act

• Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and spatial database development a plus

• Experience with coding languages such as Python and ArcGIS Arcade a plus

• Data visualization and graphic design skills

• Familiarity with hydrologic processes, water quality treatment mechanisms, and drainage system design concepts a plus

• Ability to travel, if required

Qualifications

• BS in civil/environmental engineering, environmental science or related discipline

• 3-5 years of professional experience, environmental consulting experience a plus

• Experience supervising or mentoring a plus
