The Opportunity

You will play an integral role in providing flawless service to customers by managing material that meets customer specifications and time requirements. You will be filling, placing and expediting orders to meet delivery commitments for customer's stock and non-stock material as part of our Crib Storeroom Management team. Note: This an hourly, non-exempt role.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform procurement activities to ensure the customer's current and anticipated demand for products and materials (stock and/or non-stock, or spot buy) are met and in alignment with Vallen's purchasing strategies.

  • Place purchase requisitions and vendor purchase orders.

  • Research, assess, and make recommendations for vendors and/or specific items of request to ensure they comply with specifications and meet the customer's quality, pricing, and delivery standards.

  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of products and materials supplied; may coordinate the return of damaged goods and/or replacement items.

  • Expedites purchase orders for stock inventory to meet customer requirements.

  • Negotiate and coordinate vendor returns for aging, expired, or excess inventory; coordinate other liquidation activities as required.

  • Follow-up on the status of purchase orders with vendors to ensure timely delivery; and communicate status of orders with customers.

  • Communicate with vendors to resolve problems with timeliness and product quality.

  • Assist with the authorization for payment of invoices as necessary.

  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with one or more suppliers, vendors, and assigned customers.

  • Assist with identifying opportunities for and document customer cost savings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Benefits

  • 1 year experience on Customer's Storeroom Management system

  • Inventory control experience, problem solving and the ability to analyze min/max inventory stock levels

  • Previous exposure purchasing maintenance materials - MRO buying a plus!

  • Familiar with warehousing a must! (Receiving, Issuing, Cycle Counts, etc.)

  • Strong Multi-tasking skills

  • Good PC skills (Word, Excel, etc.); SAP experience a plus!

Job Responsibilities * Understand total cost of ownership of the procurement process and identify areas for improvement to include cost savings and spending trends. * Gain familiarity with the end use of assigned commodities, leading to the identification of alternative sourcing strategies of assigned commodities. Develop relationships that foster the sharing of historical knowledge concerning assigned commodities. * Full understanding of the request for quotations (RFQ) process. Implement plans for execution of standardized products and the impact of the RFQ process on the plant site. * Develop new opportunities and relationships with suppliers. Fully understand the Specification process for creation and implementation. Work with Suppliers to meet standardized specifications for implementation of like for like products. Work closely with Product Management team to identify and implement the best alternative sources. Maintain detailed records of the sourcing results. * Prepare and distribute spend metrics at predetermined intervals. Analyze and advise on trends and outliers that can impact the business. * Consolidate requirements and develop most suitable method of purchase such as spot purchase orders, contracts, blanket orders, and supplier stocking arrangements. * Work closely with product management to research market conditions and strategies to avoid supply interruption. Advise management of market conditions and supplier base activity which could affect pricing and/or delivery. * Work closely with the supplier quality group to initiate supplier audits of existing approved vendors and potential new vendors. Provide first rate customer service to internal customers to bridge the gap between the outside vendor and our internal groups. * Understanding of Contractual agreements, Intellectual property, Confidentiality requirements and Supply or Master Goods agreements. Create contractual agreements with key suppliers such that supply requirements are fulfilled with high quality goods. * Develop and maintain a category management strategy that will enable effective supplier management. The focus of the supplier management strategy will be to assure high quality materials and services, improved lead times and margin enhancing pricing. * Create an alternative sourcing plan for all assigned commodities. Implement strategies that leverage preferred suppliers' expertise and technology to assist in spend management and analytics. Job Requirements Education B.S. Degree in Business Management or equivalent Skills & Experience * MUST have at least 5 years of experience in procurement and purchasing. * Proven experience in RFQ creation. * Strong negotiation skills and supplier management. * Experience with raw material purchasing to include specification determination, sampling, and qualification. * Experience with Packaging systems and Solutions to include corrugate, folded cartons, labeling, rigid bottles, enclosures, printed inserts, and other forms of industrial packaging. * Understanding of Risk vs. Benefit analysis and be able to implement across assigned commodities.
