The Washington State Ferry (WSF) system is essential to Washington's transportation network, linking communities on both sides of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. There are over 400 sailings each day on 10 ferry routes. WSF transports nearly 17 million passengers a year and has more than 1,800 employees. Employees perform a variety of duties on vessels, in terminals, at the maintenance facility, and at the Seattle headquarters.
The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Storekeeper at the WSF Warehouse. WSF Warehouse serves as central receiving, stocking, and delivery point for all WSF's material requirements. Its inventory and delivery functions play a vital role in supporting the safe operations of our ferry fleet, terminals, and the Eagle Harbor Repair Facility.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you, the Storekeeper will:
Accept and inspect deliveries.
Process and pack customer orders.
Process receipts and inventory using WSF's Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) tool , and WSDOT's Consumable Inventory Management System (CICS) systems.
Load and unload supplies.
Operate a motor vehicle and other power equipment (forklift, hydraulic/electric equipment)
Prepare outgoing UPS or FedEx shipments.
Move up to 50 lbs. frequently.
Deliver/pick-up materials from WSF customers (i.e., vessels, terminals, Eagle Harbor, HQ) and vendors
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
Two (2) years of experience in warehousing, stock-keeping, receiving, or shipping parts, supplies, or equipment in a warehouse operation, marine parts store, retail store, commissary, or closely related work.
Minimum one (1) year of experience with the following Windows-based programs, MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
Pre-employment drug screening as well as random pool drug and alcohol screening.
Current Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire and required to maintain as a condition of employment.
Basic knowledge of inventory management processes.
Ability to learn WSF inventory management tools, including EAM and CICS.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Class-B License (CDL-B), within six months of the date of hire.
Ability to use required tools and equipment including operating a motor vehicle and other powered equipment, such as a forklift and/or other hydraulic/electric equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE) accurately and consistently as required by the assigned job or task.
Ability to use standard office equipment, including but not limited to computer, telephone, and related software and/or applications as applicable.
Ability to think strategically and independently to develop and implement solutions while maintaining established operating policies.
Ability to prioritize, analyze, problem-solve, plan, and implement tasks as needed related to both day-to-day and emergent situations effectively and appropriately. Understand instructions and timelines to manage time, plan projects, and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, is adaptable and flexible to change and changing priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively and build positive internal and external relationships.
Ability to move up to 50 lbs. frequently, such as incoming and outgoing deliveries and other equipment.
Important Notes
The salary range listed includes the legislative-approved wage increase, effective on July 1, 2024.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
