Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking to hire a Storekeeper I for the Manteno Veterans' Home. This position serves under the direction of the Executive, the incumbent will operate a central institutional or departmental storeroom or warehouse of moderate size and assist a higher-level storekeeper in some phase of the operation in a larger unit. This position is responsible for processing a variety of general, industrial, mechanical or office supply items of considerable value. Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school.

  • Requires one (1) year experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of the State Property Control Act

  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the activities of the property control personnel.

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate property assets, their depreciation, and condemnation.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare accurate inventory reports.

  • Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with department staff and subordinates

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass a background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.

  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.

  • Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers

  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.

  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
