This position is eligible for appointment at the salary of Step 1.

County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement.

Future Salary Increases

July 2024 - 8.63% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 5.88% Market Increase)

ABOUT THE POSITION

Storekeepers are allocated to various departments throughout the County of San Diego. They plan, direct, and coordinate the overall activities in a commissary, large storeroom or warehouse. The work of a Storekeeper involves ordering, receiving, storing, inventorying, and issuing a wide variety of items.

IDEAL CANDIDATESwill have previous work experience using effective safety storeroom practices while handling a high volume of inventory in a large storeroom or warehouse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.Two (2) yearsof storekeeping or warehouse experience consisting of ordering, receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, materials, and equipment; OR,

2.Eighteen (18) monthsof experience as a Stock Clerk with the County of San Diego.

NOTE: Depending on assignment, select positions may require possession of a valid Certified Forklift Operator's license from a recognized agency or organization within thirty (30) days after appointment.Experience in providing first line or full supervision over employees responsible for performing storekeeping work is desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work primarily takes place indoors within an office or storeroom environment or warehouse environment (separate building). Work involves frequent travel to various locations within the County to pick up or deliver items. Work involves occasional exposure to heights, loud machine noises, unpleasant odors, gaseous fumes, dust, debris, and varying temperatures. When assigned to the Probation or Sheriff's Department, work involves frequent interaction with juvenile or adult incarcerated individuals who may be uncooperative, upset, hostile, and potentially violent.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.

EVALUATION

The names of qualified candidates will be placed on a six(6) monthemployment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
