Position Objective:

The Store Security Officer (SSO) will play a key role in minimizing our exposure to loss while promoting a positive shopping environment for our guests. The SSO's primary responsibility will be to greet and thank each guest as they enter and exit the store, while maintaining a strong visual presence in an effort to deter potential shoplifting activity. SSO's will immediately report any incidents of theft or safety concerns to the store management and their respective District Asset Protection Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor customer traffic entering and exiting the store

  • Communicate all suspicious activity to store management and District AP Manager

  • May be required to perform EAS audits and cycle counts.

  • Have knowledge of and maintain strict compliance with the law and company policies concerning apprehensions, searches and seizures, and the preservation of evidence

  • Works on special assignments, investigations, and surveillance as directed by the District AP Manager

  • Maintain a safe business environment

Requirements

Education:

High school diploma preferred

Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years Asset Protection / Loss Prevention or security experience.

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to use judgment and apply common sense when carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Able to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to work independently, self-directed and self-motivated.

  • Working knowledge of key physical security systems, such as alarms, and EAS tagging.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

This position requires regular walking, standing, hearing, and talking. Some kneeling, stooping, crouching, or crawling may be required. Must be able to move and/or lift at least 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to sustain long periods of time at assigned work station.

The major job responsibilities of the University of Kentucky Security Officer include performing patrol and sitting posts, providing customer service, completing reports and forms, and attending trainings. Security Officers experience both high pace activity in response to high stress situations and also repetitive/routine activity to proactively serve and protect. Specific duties include responding to assistance calls for disorderly patients and visitors, providing services including crisis intervention and conflict resolution, diffusing potentially volatile situations with due regard for the safety of all involved, and completing University forms and reports accurately and thoroughly. The position also requires sitting 72 hour holds, performing repetitive duties like relocking and unlocking doors, or monitoring video camera footage. Security officers must be able to work overtime with short notice for extended periods of time. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities This position will require candidates to take a polygraph examination as part of the University Police Department's employment process.
