POSITION EXPECTATIONS

Position Expectations

The Store Manager is responsible for learning the aspects of the Store Manager role. The Store Manager in Training assists on the overall store operation, including collections, processing, personnel management, financial performance, workforce development plan implementation and asset protection activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maximizes sales performance through proper rotation, display, signage, and inventory of processed merchandise. Meet or exceed sales goals on a consistent basis.

  • Oversees the proper handling and processing of incoming and outgoing donations: on-site donations, processed goods, salvage goods and waste.

  • Maximizes used goods processing through the proper application of Goodwill techniques, including sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale. Meet or exceed production goals on a consistent basis.

  • Ensures that quality customer service is presented and provided by employees in a timely and courteous manner to all shoppers, donors, and other employees.

  • Ensures the proper management of clients assigned to the store.

  • Maintains sales floor appearance, cleanliness and shopping environment including but not limited to floor care, fitting room, cash register, customer service areas, aisles, trash cans, lights, restrooms, glass showcase, window ledges and doors.

  • Maintains odor control, cash registers, doors and rest rooms are in proper working order.

  • Maintains appearance of building exterior and parking lot appearance, including but not limited to windows, doors, sidewalks, parking lot lights, dumpster area, landscape, stray shopping carts, store entry and signage.

  • Maintains processing area appearance, housekeeping, and work environment.

  • Identifies structural concerns to discuss with the landlord and notify facilities team of all repairs and maintenance needed at the store.

  • Maintains all machinery in proper working order.

  • Meets or exceeds production goals daily, weekly, and monthly.

  • Manages the store budget including maintaining position control, achieving processing goals, generating revenue, and controlling expenses effectively and efficiently.

  • Ensures proper cash handling including enforcement of cash register procedures and submission of required reports.

  • Ensures that the store and surrounding premises are kept clean and free of safety hazards.

  • Ensures safety procedures are understood and followed by all store employees.

  • Ensures that asset protection matters are reported and investigated accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Ensures proper operation of security and safety systems including, but not limited to: door locks, alarms, office door, bank deposits, refunds, safe, incident reports, fire extinguishers and cash handling procedures.

  • Follows all safety policies, asset protection policies and team member policies, as outlined in the Team Member handbook, Asset Protection handbook and Safety Manual.

  • Hires, trains, and directs the activities of store personnel to provide an efficient and effective work force. Maintain morale of work force.

  • Schedules weekly labor in a timely fashion and in accordance with direction from senior management.

  • Reports personnel information and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Trains all staff reporting to them on any issues or policies and procedures needed.

  • Ensures that performance evaluations are conducted in a timely manner.

  • Processes employee status change actions accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Ensures proper adherence by store staff to policies and procedures. Utilize intervention skills recommended by Human Resources (HR), to effectively maintain discipline.

  • Ensures compliance with all Goodwill policies provided in the Team Member Goodwill Guidebook, GII standards, and safety and security regulations.

  • Meets qualitative and quantitative performance standards as established by the company.

Education, Experience, and Requirements

  • High school/ GED completion or Bachelor's degree in any related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 6 years retail experience with 3 years of retail supervisory experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years goal setting and tracking experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years handling salvage or similar type of audits preferred.

  • Team Members in this position may be required to travel at a moment's notice or be transferred to other Goodwill retail stores, based on business operational needs.

  • Must be able to continuously perform repetitive work, at a set pace.

  • Prior profit and loss, sales or cost management accountability preferred.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of retail and computer technology.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite software including a strong emphasis on Word and Excel.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with excellent communication skills.

  • Bilingual a plus.

  • Exhibits a high level of integrity and business ethics.

  • Exhibits a high level of adaptability and flexibility.

Environmental Factors

  • Duties will be conducted at the retail store, warehouse, or other assigned Goodwill locations where no cooling or heating will be available. Exposure to extreme heat, cold, dust, animal hair and sometimes humidity.

Physical Factors

  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds.

Prolonged standing, walking, reaching, stooping, lifting, pulling, bending, kneeling.
