What is a Store Driver?

Entry level store position capable of supporting delivery of parts to commercial customers. The role has the responsibility to deliver parts to our commercial customers and assist with task and inventory processes in the store. This position can be part time or full time and must be fleet safety certified.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Safely deliver parts to customers as needed

  • Pick and stage parts for customer orders

  • Pick up returns and cores

  • Drop off weekly / monthly sales flyer

  • Daily collection of credit accounts

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Store Cleanliness including floors, bathrooms, facing, dusting, parking lot

  • General stocking including truck stocking and back stock

Success Factors

  • Basic driving and navigation ability

  • Ability to use delivery board system

  • Friendly communication

  • Ability to locate and stock parts

  • Safety knowledge and skills

  • Operating inventory systems (Back stock) and store equipment

Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a Driver

  • Communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and management

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, parts catalogs, and procedure manuals

  • Use basic math accurately: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to work an assortment of days, evenings, and weekends as needed

Prior Experience that Sets a Driver up for Success

Automotive parts experience is preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid driver's license and be fleet safety certified

The employee is also occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Duties: * Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order * Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations. * Check all load-related documentation to ensure complete and accurate and obtain receipts or signatures when loads are delivered. * Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned. * Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, binders, and/or covers. * Read bills of lading to determine assignment details. * Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles immediately to supervisor and Safety Department. * Read and interpret maps in order to determine vehicle routes, or use automated routing equipment (i.e. GPS) * Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks. * Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes. * Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in order to document weights and to comply with federal and state regulations. * Operate equipment such as two-way telephones to exchange necessary information with supervisors or other drivers. * Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage. * Crank trailer landing gear up and down to safely secure vehicles. * Inspect goods to be moved to determine conditions prior to moving. * Remove any debris from trailers after loading and unloading is completed. * Load, unload and/or move freight at customer locations, using powered or manual equipment – as appropriate for work assignment (i.e. local or regional). * Required to do collections as directed by the transportation office. * Required to pick up product as directed by the transportation office. * Reliable, consistent attendance is a requirement and essential function for this position. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: * High School Diploma/GED. * Valid government issued Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). * One (1) year work-related driving experience and skills. * Good oral and written communication skills. * Good organization skills – prioritize work assignments and manage work time. * Basic skills in use of computers and software programs. * Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
