Panasas is a renowned leader in parallel file systems, specializing in distributed storage solutions for the high-performance computing market. We are seeking an experienced Lab and DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team at Panasas. This role will be instrumental in supporting the development and maintenance of our distributed storage systems while also contributing to our DevOps practices and toolchain. The successful candidate will play a key lab administration role in our storage solutions development lab, while also driving automation and efficiency through our DevOps processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, deploy, and maintain distributed storage systems in our Pittsburgh lab environment.

• Install, configure, and administer Unix/Linux systems, with a strong preference for RHEL (CentOS/Alma/Rocky) and SLES (OpenSUSE), and a desire for FreeBSD knowledge.

• Utilize shell scripting for system automation, troubleshooting, and configuration management.

• On-site lab systems configuration management (racking, cabling, asset inventory and lifecycle management, lab monitoring and alarming)

• Implement configuration and provisioning automation using tools such as Ansible (preferred), Puppet, or SaltStack.

• Configure and manage CI/CD pipelines to facilitate continuous integration and delivery of software releases.

• Implement GitOps workflows for managing infrastructure and application deployments.

• Utilize observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Kibana for monitoring system performance and health.

• Conduct chaos testing to proactively identify and address system vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

• Containerize applications and deploy them on Kubernetes clusters for scalability and reliability.

Other Responsibilities include:

• Continuously assess and improve lab infrastructure and processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.

• Participate in team meetings, contribute ideas, and provide feedback to drive continuous improvement.

• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in lab management, virtualization, and DevOps.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in lab administration and / or DevOps

• Proven experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining distributed storage systems, preferably in a production environment.

• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices, with hands-on experience in Unix/Linux systems administration.

• Proficiency with DevOps toolchain including Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, SaltStack, etc.

• Experience working with at least one major Cloud Service Provider (CSP) such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

• Experience with virtualization technologies, with Proxmox and/or XCP-ng being preferred and VMware being desirable.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Additional Information:

This position will be based in our Pittsburgh, PA office and will follow a hybrid work model, with some days remote and some in the Pittsburgh lab. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

The estimated salary range for this position: $125,000 - $135,000. Actual salary range is based on the regional labor market of the role in the geography in which the position is located based on the requirements of the job and your skills. This posted salary range is a good faith and reasonable estimate, and Panasas reserves the right to adjust this range depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
