Custodian/Stockroom Associate

The Custodian/Stockroom Associate is to ensure merchandise is processed in a timely manner into and out of the Receiving Room and/or ensure store is cleaned and maintained on a regular schedule.



  • Alert management when shipments arrive and accompany management in receiving/unloading freight. Prepare receiving area

  • Assist management with scanning in all freight and identify damaged/tampered boxes

  • Assist freight carrier driver with properly staging cartons

  • Stage and sort merchandise

  • Determine with store management what merchandise is a priority to be processed

  • Perform merchandise processing techniques (i.e., batch processing, speed hanging, flip and clip)

  • Relay merchandise to the sales floor based upon store management direction

  • Pick up hangers/sensors tags from cash wraps as needed

  • Remove sensor tags received on Store-to-Store Transfers that are inappropriate for store

  • Process outgoing Store-To-Store Transfers Recalls and Damages

  • Process 10 cartons per hour


  • Aid management in moving fixtures and other floor moves when needed

  • Help assemble, or breakdown new/old fixtures as needed

  • Aid in hanging outside banners or in-store signs

  • Vacuum and spot-clean carpet.

  • Clean restrooms, store entrance, break room, Team-One and fitting rooms, Trash pickup/disposal outside

  • Sweep and mop floors where and when appropriate

  • Dust in high, out of reach areas

  • Replace light bulbs as needed. Identify ballasts in need of repair to management

  • Maintain and organize sign holders/signs

  • Maintain cleaning supply dock

  • Clean all interior/exterior glass and windows

  • Check exterior sidewalk for cleanliness daily.

  • Schedule- The start time for the Custodian associate is generally one hour prior to store opening

  • The Custodian is to vacuum and perform other major cleaning before Guests begin entering the store

  • Aid in hanging outside banners and in-store signs


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent


  • Must be able to read and evaluate merchandise presentations and other reports

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Guests, associates, job applicants, etc.

  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously for up to 6 hours

  • Must be able to climb a utility ladder to reach shelves and walls that are as high as 9 feet

  • Must be able to bend down to handle and move merchandise and other objects

  • Must be able to grasp, lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs

  • Must be able to grasp and manipulate small objects, such as pricing or security tags; must be able to use a pen and/or a keyboard

VIEW JOBS 3/15/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-13T00:00 This position is responsible for unloading trucks, opening boxes and distributing merchandise to the appropriate areas to ensure an efficient flow of goods through the stockroom. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIE A. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Must be at work on a regular and predictable basis or as scheduled. * Manually unload the trailers using a pallet jack. * Move pallets of merchandise to the appropriate staging area in the stockroom for additional handling by department sales associates. * Use a broom to sweep the trailer clean. * Load on the trailer all empty pallets, hanger boxes and merchandise for return to the Distribution Center and the trailer is then resealed. * Clean the stockroom to ensure it is effective, organized and free of trash. * Compact vendor boxes. * Break down and flatten reusable Distribution Center boxes; stack on a pallet, secure and return on an empty trailer. * Maintain merchandise fixtures. Assemble, disassemble, move and store merchandise fixtures and parts. * Follow company policies and procedures and maintain a safe work environment. B. NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Perform minor repair work and building maintenance. * Assist Sales Associates as necessary. * Performs other job related duties as assigned by Store Management. JOB SCOPE AND DIMENSIONS This position is responsible for the flow of merchandise into and out of the stockroom. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Ability to sufficiently understand the English language in order to communicate with individuals at all levels in the company and with various business contacts outside of the company in an articulate, professional manner and to read shipping manifest, shipping tally, transfer sheets and order forms. * Sufficient physical strength and agility in order to climb ladders, operate a pallet jack and move boxes of merchandise weighing up to 75 pounds. * Visual ability, corrected, to see fixtures and objects on the floor up to 10 yards away. * Sufficient manual dexterity in at least one hand to be able to operate a pallet jack, use hand tools and manually complete required paperwork. * Ability to stand continuously, walk at a reasonable pace and perform essential job functions for up to an eight and one-half hour shift, with two fifteen minute breaks and one-half hour meal break. * Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision within two weeks after beginning work. * Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background screen. Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * High School Diploma preferred. * Prior stockroom experience preferred.
