CLASS TITLE: Transportation Stock Keeper

REPORTS TO: Warehouse/Shop Supervisor

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, receives, stores, and dispenses a variety of items including automotive and heavy equipment parts, tools, materials, supplies, and equipment.

Maintains an inventory of items. Contacts vendors and purchases items. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES DUTIES:

Staffs the counter of an automotive or equipment parts stockroom.

Receives requests from mechanics and others for parts and supplies.

Accesses an automated database to locate requested parts in the stockroom and throughout the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) system. Charge out stock and non-stocked parts to electronic vehicle work orders. Pulls requested items from stockroom shelves.

Dispenses parts. Assembles orders for delivery.

Maintains an inventory of automotive and heavy equipment parts, tools, materials, supplies, and equipment. Organizes and maintains a stockroom.

Rotates stock and restocks shelves. Conducts physical inventories of the stockroom.

Performs various manual labor task, such as but not limited to charging batteries, organizing bolt bins, assembling storage units, assisting with inventory audits at other BCPS locations.

Contacts vendors and purchases stocked items. Locates and purchases non-stock items from suppliers.

Obtains price information from suppliers. Ensures parts meet specifications. Prepares and fills requisitions.

Receives shipments of parts, supplies, and materials. Compares shipment contents with the invoice.

Schedules part core returns, warranty pickup and replacements.

Picks up parts, supplies, and materials from suppliers and other stockrooms. Delivers parts, supplies, materials and equipment. Loads and unloads vans and trucks as needed.

Operates material handling equipment, including forklifts, to move inventory in a stockroom or warehouse. Operates trucks and equipment as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience:

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.

One year of automotive parts ordering experience required.

Experience with automotive parts preferred.

Note: Other combination of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent.

Obtain and Maintain forklift certification within six (6) months from date of hire in this classification.

Required license(s) and certification(s) must be maintained throughout employment in this classification or be subject to disciplinary action up to termination of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of automotive and/or heavy equipment parts. Knowledge of automated inventory management systems.

Skill in maintaining an inventory of stocked items. Skill in ordering, receiving, storing, and dispensing parts, supplies, and equipment.

Skill in maintaining records and files electronically. Skill in the use of an automated inventory management system.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications such as word, outlook, and excel. Able to use web-based applications and browsers for part research and ordering.

Ability to operate a forklift.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The work of this class involves frequent walking and standing, lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds), and the use of coordinative and manipulative skills in the operation of material handling equipment. Work requires exposure to stockroom and garage environments that include exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, machinery, and equipment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency.

This position will participate in the Department of Transportation's snow removal duties as directed by management.

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

Eligible for membership in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System.

This class specification defines the types of duties and level of difficulty of work required of positions in this title. It shall not be held to exclude duties not mentioned nor limit the right of management to assign work to employees.

Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required.

GRADE: Grade 05 on the AFSCME Pay Scale, $18.79- $28.33 per hour

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.

  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.

  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.

  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to hire.

  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.

  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits session.

  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
