Position: Sterilizer Service Technician JOB SUMMARY:
To perform inspections, preventive maintenance, repair and overhaul and modifications of sterilizers, surgical lights, tables, sonic cleaners, cart washers, and other equipment assigned to this category.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructs co-workers as required in the performance of job tasks.
Maintains records of each work assignment.
*Reads and interprets instructional and maintenance manuals as wells as blue prints, mechanical drawings and schematic diagrams related to equipment services.
Reads technical journals and literature related to job field.
Participates in organized education and training activities to upgrade knowledge and job knowledge and job performance.
*Initiates request for replacement parts and materials.
Performs any and all tasks within his/her capabilities as may be required to help meet overall corporate objectives.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The following performance expectations represent core competency requirements for the position of Sterilizer Equipment Technician.
Interacts in a professional manner with all client staff, patients, and co-workers.
Maintains knowledge of, and compliance with, ISS Solutions' Service Reporting System policies and procedures.
Maintains knowledge of, and compliance with, corporate and client mandated policies regarding workplace safety issues (infection control, fire safety, hazard communications, etc).
Maintains knowledge of the clinical purpose, proper operating procedures, maintenance requirements, and risks associated with use, of medical devices for which the technician has maintenance responsibilities.
Troubleshoots equipment problems to component level when such troubleshooting is cost effective, time effective and possible is able to weigh all factors to make this decision.
Demonstrates proper and effective use of test equipment and is able to utilize information from test equipment for logical troubleshooting.
Interprets schematic drawings and sterilize time cycles to be able to link information into a logical pathway for basic circuit analysis.
Demonstrates effective equipment assembly/disassembly, and component replacement skills.
Should understand dart tests, spoor tests and other biological confirmation of sterilization used by customers.
Should be familiar with ETO sterilization, scope sterilizers, OR tables and lights.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must be experienced in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining medical devices, having worked for at least three years on equipment of this type for a shared service, hospital, military, or with a manufacturer. Alternatively, five years experience as an electronics technician and/or working for the plumbing industry may be satisfactory.
*Must be able to troubleshoot and repair reasonably complex electronic devices down to the component level.
Must be experienced with inventory and ordering procedures commonly associated with repair and maintenance of electronic, electric, electro-mechanical and plumbing equipment.
Must demonstrate the ability to work well with a variety of people, including nurses, physicians, administrators, engineers, and other biomedical equipment technicians. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
Should be familiar with inspection and maintenance procedures to determine or to ensure the safety and performance of this type of equipment
Should have completed or be enrolled in a two year Associates degree program in Biomedical Equipment Technology.
*Must be able to read and write English and communicate effectively with hospital staff, vendors, manufacturers, and corporate staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to access and work in confined spaces with little or no assistance.
*Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. to chest height unassisted and 60 lbs. assisted.
