Job Description: Sterile Processing Department Educator/Quality Control Technician Weekly Hours: 40 Shift: 1st Status: Full Time Job Summary: Responsible for coordination, implementation, and evaluation of education in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Performs random quality assurance checks on case carts/pick tickets issues or other needs deem necessary. Acts as a consultant change agent, facilitator, and liaison for staff of the SPD with the other department that SPD serves. Works variable hours to meet the needs of the various shifts. Supports organizational goals. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time. 1. Develops, implements, and evaluates interdisciplinary staff education needs and opportunities to enhance staff performance and professional growth. Uses an appropriate problem solving approach to plan education. Communicates with the staff to facilitate development of their technical, time management, and process improvement skills. Promotes career development, including sterile processing certification. Acts as a resource person and support to staff , working side by side to assist with questions. 2. Collaborates with Managerial staff in the development of competency plan and educational programs, tools, and/or materials. Responsible for the implementation of competencies. Administers technicians' departmental competencies review as needed. Provides services with consideration of the physical, psychological, and cultural/spiritual of the staff and those the department serves. Interacts with staff/customers using courtesy, clarity, and respect. 3. Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating departmental orientation of new employees. Oversees activities/education of SPD staff. Serves as a clinical resource to staff members by providing information and education to all staff members to promote individual staff member accountability and responsibility. 4. Collaborates with management and staff to assist in the development and implementation of standards, quality measures, and policies/procedures. 5. Enhances the role of Educator/Quality through self-development and maintains sterile processing skills through actions and competencies 6. Maintains documentation of staff education requirements and activities. Assist with monitoring workflow to ensure prioritized workload according to existing needs. 7. Completion of additional duties deemed necessary by manager in a timely manner. 8. Performs random quality assurance checks on case carts/pick tickets or other needs deem necessary. Serves as a resource when opportunities for improvement or correcting deficiencies are noted and develops action plans as appropriate. 9. Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development. Attends and contributes to all departmental meetings and in-services either directly or by reading minutes. 10. Facilitates a work environment that fosters motivation for self and others, exhibits leadership behaviors. 11. Able to perform all principle duties and responsibilities of a Sterile Processing Tech 1. Will fill in at any SPD working station when deemed necessary. Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required: A. Three-five years Sterile Processing experience required. B. IAHCSMM Certification required with CRCST and CIS preferred. C. Two years of computer/information system experience preferred. D. Teaching experience and/or project management experience preferred.
