POSITION SUMMARY The CPU Technician works under the Supervision of the Lead CPU Tech and Supervisor of CPU. Performs the duties as assigned in CPU including: Decontamination, the preparation of items for sterilization by Steam, and Gas Plasma, distributes items as necessary to the Nursing Care area, collects soiled items per established routine throughout the facility, exhibits skill and knowledge in aseptic technique, monitoring of the sterilization and decontamination process, proper storage and distribution of sterile supplies, and is responsible for participation in cost management. Will promote department growth with the organization and have a good working relationship with support departments and nursing care areas. Displays a positive attitude and inspires the support of departments and hospital. Willingness to accept new ideas and work under stressful conditions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Licenses and Certifications Required Ability to obtain Sterile Processing Technician Certification via IAHCSMM within 12 months of hire. Educational Requirements High school diploma or GED strongly preferred. Experience Requirements Basic computer knowledge, related experience in healthcare or job functions similar to those in Central Processing. Special Skills or Training Requirements Maintains familiarity with all instrumentation, including proper care and knowledge of functionality. Communicates well with others, handles stressful situations well and works as an efficient member of the team. Completes probation period satisfactorily.
