Central Sterile and Reprocessing (CSR) routinely stocks patient care units with sterilized non-chargeable items. CSR personnel are responsible for checking dates of sterile supplies maintained in the storage location on each clinical department. If sterile supplies are maintained in decentralized locations, the patient care personnel is responsible for checking dates. Patient care personnel are responsible for placing reusable dirty supplies/equipment within the dirty utility rooms. CSR personnel make daily rounds to pick up reusable equipment/supplies that need to be decontaminated/sterile. CSR is also responsible for ordering OR disposable supplies. CSR personnel assemble reusable instrument sets, assist with assembly of case carts, and clean, decontaminate and sterilize all reusable instrumentation for patient care areas, physician offices, and community based health care centers. CSR personnel respond to CODE 3, CODE 1 and CODE RED.


  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Communicates concern on a one-to-one basis when breaks of confidentiality are observed.

  • Adheres to the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Nursing Department.

  • Takes responsibility for bi-annual BLS Certification.

  • Attends all mandatory meetings (including staff meetings, fire, safety).

  • Reports to work on time at the start of the shift, after breaks and lunch.

  • Displays flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the Unit and/or float to the other facility.

  • Consistently utilizes ET in accordance with established MCH and Unit standards.

  • Assists with orientation of new personnel as requested.

  • Displays self as a role model/resource person to staff members.

  • Performs assigned duties in a timely and efficient manner. Prioritizes all tasks and duties to provide efficient work flow., realizing the impact this has on all departments.

  • Consistently finds time to assist others by taking the initiative to assist with special projects.

  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment for patients and co-workers.

  • Consistently takes initiative to change needle boxes, clean work space, stock supplies.

  • Demonstrates the ability to respond to a change in workload related to patient census, crisis, or emergency situations.

  • Independently recognizes what needs to be done by following through.

  • Participates in Quality Improvement process as appropriate.

  • Maintains equipment and supplies effectively.

  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the Unit Coordinator/Resource Person.

  • Seeks guidance and direction as necessary while working on assigned duties/procedures.

  • Follows standards of universal precautions.

  • Updates and initiates cards for procedural trays.

  • Demonstrates proper care (decontamination/sterilization) of speciality instrumentation and equipment.

  • Anticipates surgical/unit instrumentation equipment and supply needs.

  • Maintains knowledge of techniques and the principles of decontamination and sterilization.

(Including usage concern tests). * Test and maintain locations utilizing SCADA equipment. * Test and maintain locations utilizing Transducers * Dual Circuit locations utilizing totalization equipment. * Net Energy Billing locations and other Bi-Directional metering applications. * Be proficient in the use of the Birddog, Portable Alpha, Optical Systems, 505 Analyzer, Power mate and Single Point Test Kit * Must be capable of coordination with Meter Engineer and Meter Services * Coordinators regarding special projects * Must have basic understanding of power quality issues and be able to monitor and trouble shoot power quality problems at customer locations * Must work and coordinate with other company personnel to assure continuity of job completion, and deal courteously with all customers. * Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, engineers and contractors regarding the metering installations and related equipment. * Must be able to accurately prepare and maintain the necessary records in connection with the work in a legible manner. * Have thorough understanding of vector analysis pertaining to transformer rated metering installations and be able to analyze results and recommend changes if required. * Must be capable of using a PC to accurately program and interrogate electronic meters and to complete reports with standard office software and manipulate files. * Assume responsibility for and insure the safe and proper use, operation and maintenance of tools, test equipment and vehicles. Skills and Requirements * Must have passed the exam and be a qualified Meter Technician A. * Must have and maintain a valid State of Maine driver's license. * Must have an associate degree in Electrical Technology or the equivalent. * Must be willing to participate in the safety process. * Must have a thorough knowledge of the safety instructions affecting the work and to perform the work accordingly. * Must stay current with technology associated with job classification. * Must be proficient in the use of personal computers (PC's), operating systems and metering software applications. * Must have a working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and local ordinances where applicable with respect to the installation of electric meters and service entrances and related equipment and to locate and inspect service installation for conformity to these regulations. * Must have a thorough knowledge of the Handbook of Standard Requirements, Metering Construction Standards, Field Operating Procedures pertaining to the assignment and the Meter Skills training manual. * Must be familiar with the Company's industrial, commercial and residential rate structure. * Ability to work with others. * Ability to work within deadlines. * Must be capable of performing all essential functions of the classification and other appropriate duties as assigned.
