Summary:Under indirect supervision follows approved infection control, quality assurance and departmental policies and procedures. Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and/or sterilizes surgical instruments, trays and reusable medical devices for inpatient Nursing departments and PMG clinics. Inventories, restocks and distributes instruments and reusable medical equipment to the Operating Room. Works a majority of time in a Sterile Processing Department cleaning, preparing, assembling, sterilizing instruments, and trays for the Operating Room. Cleans, decontaminates, disinfects and stores the GI scopes.The Sterile Processing Team lead is assigned full performance level duties to include decontamination, preparation, sterilization, maintenance and distribution of sterilized instruments and medical equipment. The position also includes management of sterile instrument inventory, equipment knowledge and responsibility for coordinating the instrument repair and replacement process.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required *Has advanced skills and expertise in Sterile Processing work processes and activities with a minimum of 2 years experience required. Current Sterile Processing certification (CSPDT) from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) from the International Association of Healthcare Central
Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM). And Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) or Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or from IAHCSMM (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) required within 6
months of hire.
