Position Summary:

Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following infection control practices. Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital. As a Lead, work with both the OR and Sterile processing teams to assist with the smooth flow and transition of work as outlined below. Serve as an example to other technologists both in conduct and performance.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Facilitates instrument turnover and work prioritization.

  • Verifies that the required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day cases.

  • Facilitates shift handoff and communication.

  • Orders department supplies.

  • Initiates the repair process for damaged instrumentation.

  • Ensures proper operation (e.g. runs and records biological tests, inspects equipment for visible signs of malfunction) of sterilizers (sterrad NX, sterrad 100) prior to use on a daily basis.

  • Processes all contaminated instruments, endoscopes and supplies returned to the Sterile Processing Department.

  • Applies infection prevention techniques in daily work assignments (e.g. general cleaning of department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets).

  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding handling and care of instruments and endoscopes, tray preparation and special procedure items.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper packaging and preparation of all supplies for sterilization.

Position Qualifications: Minimum Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent;

Minimum Experience/Skills:

  • One (1) year within the past three (3) years experience as a Sterile Processing Technologist;

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and nomenclature of items and equipment used by the department.

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:

  • Certification in specialty required.

Pay Range: $27.85 - $37.44 hourly

Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications and experience
