Occ Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician, Lead as siststhe OR staff in theorganization and daily function of the operating roomin accordance withestablished federal, state, accreditation standar dsand facilitypolicies and procedures. Responsible for instrument decont amination,sterile processing, instrument care, safe handling procedures anddocumentation related to those activities.

Work Performed

The Sterile Processing Technician, Lead will be responsible forperforming the responsibilities outlined in any/all of the categoriesbelo w.Operating Room Liaison:Assists the operating room staff in preparing t heO.R. suite for surgeryby assisting in instrument preparation.Works coo peratively with OR and Central Sterile to jointly resolveissues or devel opbetter services for surgical implementation.Supports staff by ensuring communication with Central Sterile and ORstaff helps ensure all instrume nts are available for surgery.Must be able to resolve issues or offer al ternatives when necessary.Facilitates action required to obtainadditiona linstruments duringsurgery

Verifies that required instrumentation has bee n sterilized and isavailable for next-day, call or weekend cases.Address es issues in communication/procedures by proactively reviewing ORschedul e and suggesting modifications to ensure clear and precisecommunicationa nd actions with all affected departments.Responds to problem calls fromO R.Transports sterilized instrumentation to the O.R. area as needed.Docum ents and sends broken instrumentation out for repair.Completes documenta tion as required for instrument sets, etc (Case Cart,Post Case, and

Tray Audits)Responds to problem calls from ORMeets with and works with OR sta ff and surgeons as required.Site Lead:Assists in prioritizing processing of instruments and equipment forsurgical procedures to facilitateturnov er of cases.Anticipates instrument needs for following day and assuresst erileprocessing completion.May assist the operating room staff inprepari ng the O.R. suite forsurgery by assisting in instrument preparation.Acts as HLD Specialist. Performs/assists with daily quality testingonequipme nt in SPD.Assists supervisor in day-to-day activities to include answeri ng phonesand daily staff assignmentsheet.Communicates closelywith staff members concerning instrumentrequirements and availability.Verifiesthat required instrumentation has been sterilized and isavailablefor next-da y, call or weekend cases.Documents broken instrumentation. Completesdocu mentation as requiredfor instrument sets, etc (Case Cart, Post Case, and Tray Audits). Mayassist in sending broken equipment out for repair.Mana ges needs list for tray inventory

Makes sure bio's are processed andready in a timely mannerSPM/Quality Auditor:Verify sterilization documentatio n foraccuracy.Track and monitorIUSS loads anddocumentation.Trackand mon itor tray errors.Check in vendor trays for the next daycases.Aids with e xporting Quality Events for reporting.Maintains SPM tracking system whic h includes by not limited to: updatesinstrumentation,create newproducts, update count sheets.Aids in completing in servicesfor new products or p rocesses.Aids in locating trays to place new inventory received.Liaison between the Clinic Leads and Sterile Processing toensureinstrument inven tory is accurate

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of hum an anatomy and medical terminology.Knowledge and understanding of a vari ety of OR procedures' surgicalinstruments including working parts and pr oper inspection.Aptitude for troubleshooting in a high-paced environment .

Experience

2 years as a Sterile Processing Technician required.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Certification required as CSPDT (CBSPD) or CRCST(IAHCSMM). Additional certification preferred in at least one of the areas below: Sterile Processing Management

  • C.S.P.M or Healthcare Leadership

  • CHL Sterile Processing Department Technician

  • C.S.P.D.T or Registered Central Service Technician

  • CRCST Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist

  • C.S.I.S or Instrument Specialist

Maintains high standards consistency and continuous product flow between the OR and Sterile Processing. Responsible for maintaining adequate supply levels in sterile storage area, rotating stock as appropriate pulling case carts for the daily surgical schedule. Work Performed Cleans, decontaminates, assembles, and disinfects scope trays and care. recommendations.
