Description:Positions Location: Lansing, MIJob DescriptionGeneral Purpose of Job:To be proficient in care, cleaning, assembly and sterilization of complex instrument sets with a strong emphasis on orthopedic instruments for Sparrow Hospital.Essential Duties:This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.*
Decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments with strong focus on complex instrument sets, priority items, and yellow tagged sets. * Completion of all testing and inspection of orthopedic instrumentation using all available testing tools per current department guidelines. * Wear all appropriate personal protective equipment will decontaminating and assembling instrumentation. * Operation and testing of all decontamination equipment including washers and ultrasonic in central sterile processing used in processing orthopedic instrumentation * Provide training as assigned to other sterile processing techs and students on proper care, cleaning, assembly and sterilization of orthopedic instrumentation. * Serve as a role model and mentor for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's I-care values. * Maintain less than 1 percent error rate based on all orthopedic instrumentation decontaminated and assembled. * Zero bioburden contaminants (including blood and bone) in instrumentation that directly affects a patient. * Scanning instrumentation at every step in the reprocessing of orthopedic instrumentation. * Immediately contacting IT Help Desk &/or SPM as indicated for computer and software issues preventing the reprocessing of orthopedic instrumentation and work. * Promotes and maintains a clean and safe working environment.Job RequirementsGeneral Requirements • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures. • Adheres to ICARE values and standards of behavior (Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence). • Role model behaviors that value the diversity of our caregivers, patients and customers and supports creating an environment that is inclusive, welcoming and respectful. • Communicates with patients, families and customers using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thanks). • Works in a safe manner and promptly reports any hazards identified in the work environment or related to assigned responsibilities. • Adheres to policies and procedures designed to avoid, prevent and reduce the spread of communicable diseases. Work Experience • Two years of previous experience as a Sterile Processing Technician. Education • High school Diploma or GED • CBSPD or HSPA Certification OR if hired into the position before 12/1/2022 must be certified within 18 months of hire or transfer.
