Operational Duties:

  • Demonstrates knowledge related to maintenance, cleanliness, and sterilization of instruments and equipment. Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of high level disinfection and sterilization of endoscopy equipment. (Maintains daily log, testing for efficacy of disinfecting solution with each cycle, performs biological tests and completes log, as per facility policies).

  • Monitors and records all test loads and sterilization cycles; reports any deviation from normal functioning to OR Coordinator or Nurse Manager.

  • Maintains accurate records for PM's for equipment; reports any deviation from normal functioning to OR Coordinator or Nurse Manager.

  • Tests operational efficiency of Instrumentation prior to reprocessing and reports problems to OR Coordinator Nurse Manager.

  • Monitors all instrumentation for proper sterilization prior to releasing for use.

  • Performs required quality controls e.g. Bowie Dick, DART, Biological Monitoring, Disinfecting Solution Efficacy Testing, Test Strips.

  • Understands concept of "short cycle" and it is appropriate to use to sterilize and/or disinfect instruments for immediate use.

Education:

  • Training in basic aseptic technique and sterile processing.

Experience:

  • One year experience in surgical instrument sterilization processing; preferably in an acute care or ambulatory surgery center environment.

Certification/License:

  • Valid BCLS Certification upon employment*online certification not acceptable.

  • Certification in Central Sterile Processing preferred

Description JOB DESCRIPTION: * Provides on-site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and trays to contracted facilities in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards and facilities goals and policies. * Supports daily operations of all activities that relate to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations. * Awareness of concepts of the Lean work environment. * Communicates in a professional manner to all hospital staff and company employees. * Refers all decisions beyond personal scope of responsibilities to IMS leadership. * Reports broken instrumentation. * Adheres to IMS dress requirements and is neat and well-groomed at all times. * Arrives at facility at scheduled time and is consistently ready for work assignments. * Exhibits professional behavior in all personal, telephone and electronic communications. * Represents IMS, self and profession positively in all public arenas. * Supports and adheres to IMS policies and procedures. * Participates in in-services and educational offerings provided by IMS in the facility. * This job has no supervisory responsibilities. * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. * Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * A high school diploma or equivalent required. * Completion of a Sterile Processing/Surgical Technologist program preferred. * Previous Sterile Processing Department experience preferred. * Basic computer skills and aptitude. * Ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire strongly preferred. * Ability to learn the basics of OR and SPD processes and protocols, surgical instrument nomenclature, and care and handling instructions required. * Ability to work daily in a fast-paced, high pressure Healthcare Service environment.
