DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Disassemble, clean, assemble and test instrumentation for proper functioning.
Employees in a lead capacity Assist with teaching of new hires and work as resource person for other staff as well as other units in hospital.
Perform and participate in the decontamination, inspection, cleaning assembling and packaging of medical/surgical materials including instruments and equipment according to established standards and procedures to ensure a sterile and functioning supply of materials.
Prepare trays and specialty carts for designated areas according to prescribed procedures. Wrap and/or package items for specified areas according to procedures prescribed for those designated areas. Operate instrument tracking systems.
Use knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment to choose the appropriate material for sterilization processes. Assist in the maintenance of supply and materials inventory to include documenting usage, issuing, receiving and recording as assigned.
May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience as a surgical sterilization tech. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or surgical technologist program graduation may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by HSPA within one (1) year of hire as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of some college work.
Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 lbs. and occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs.
This role may also routinely come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
