Job Summary

Functions as a working supervisor during shift, providing effective leadership/guidance to the shift to ensure timely and proper collection, cleaning, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and documentation, as well as distribution of medical supplies, linens, instruments, and equipment. Employee may access secure medication supply areas to complete assigned job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Department Manager with hiring, promotion, termination, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action. • Provide supervision, organize, direct, coordinate functions/activities to assure consistent productivity of subordinate staff within the department and to ensure effective process, sterilization, and distribution of supplies, linens, instruments and equipment. • Develop a full working knowledge of all production and sterilization procedures to include sterilization testing and documentation. • Assist in development of goals and objectives for the department. • Requires a passion for customer service. Must be fully committed to providing the needs of all patients and direct patient-care providers. • Select and schedule subordinate staff to ensure adequate staffing for department's operational hours.

    Calculate time cards and maintain time records for department staff. • Responsible for orientation, competencies & technical in-service training of all subordinate staff. • Provides & documents all on-going coaching for performance improvement for all subordinate staff. • Monitors production flow to assure production schedules are met. Must be willing & able to make proactive staffing moves & operational decisions required to meet production/patient/customer needs. • Develop & maintain positive & effective relationships with all CAMC staff, department customers & outside contracted customers. • Must be able to perform emergency backup roles if staffing absenteeism requires the use of the Sterile Processing Supervisor in their capacity. • Must demonstrate an ability to perform job responsibilities with a minimum of supervision & within an approved work schedule. • Serve as a liaison between staff and leadership. • Assist with the annual budget. Responsible for cost containment & quality assurance in the department. • Interpret, administer and enforce corporate, hospital, and department policies as they affect the department. • Ensure that appropriate charges are made on all items issued from the department. • Coordinate activities of the Sterile Processing Department with other departments. • Complete all required reports, documentation, and studies in a timely and accurate manner. • Responsible for inventory management. • Serve as a member on various committees as assigned. • Inspect equipment and supplies processed within the department, arranging for the maintenance of equipment and work areas as necessary to ensure the safe and proper operating condition of all equipment. • Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss operating problems & solutions to improve the efficiency of the department. • Assist the manager in assuring the accrediting body requirements for the department are met. • Comply with all CAMC rules for health, safety, and personnel conduct. • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8.

Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required) Experience: 3 years Certified Sterile Process Technician.

Credentials

  • Central Service Tech, Cert (Required)
