Responsibilities

The Sterile Processing Coordinator II is proficient in all areas of Sterile Processing but has a primarily leadership function in one of the following: Glenwood Assembly Room, Glenwood Sterile Room, Glenwood Decontamination Room, one of our satellite campuses, or a high tray volume service line such as Orthopedic and Spine. Responsibilities include: prioritization, monitoring, maintaining, delivering, and ensuring the availability of complete, accurate, and on time instrumentation/case carts. Included in this function is the compliance of all hospital, departmental, and sterilization processes to include strict adherence to instructions for use (IFU) for each instrument. They also function as a liaison between Surgery and SPD staff providing training and education to both areas. In addition they promote a positive environment and cooperative staff effort with our customers and other shifts to provide the highest quality of support to assure excellent patient care and cost effective operations. This is in addition to other duties as assigned.

  • Acts as liaison for surgery, physicians, and hospital department's communications for their assigned area. Assists

all personnel in a positive manner to locate instruments needed for a case.

  • Complies and provides direction on hospital, personnel, and department operational policies, procedures and

assignments concerning CSIQ software system, safety, infection prevention, and equipment.

  • Submits equipment and facility work orders to maintain a safe working environment that is compliant with

regulatory guidelines.

  • Actively promotes team unity and trust. Supports all other leaders in a positive manner. Trains and interacts

with all customers and sterile processing staff in a humble and gracious way following our Service Excellence

Standards by encouraging, showing patience, providing recognition and praise.

  • Checks surgery schedule and instrument needs lists daily to assure all instruments/case carts needed for same day use or are a turnover are recorded and processed correctly and ready for use to prevent case delays. This is accomplished by assuring staffing levels are sufficient to complete needed deadlines by working with other leaders and adjusting staff work area assignments.

  • Assists in the orientation process of new employees

  • Assists in daily SPD department duties deemed necessary during their shift to include decontam, sterile room,

and assembly.

  • Participates in the SPD leader on-call rotation, inclement weather rotation, and flexing of work schedules

when needed.

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

1.Completion of Surgical Technician program, or Associate Degree in related field, or no less than 3 years Sterile Processing experience. 2. 40 hours Central Sterile Program through Purdue Central Service Technician Program within 6 months of employment if not nationally certified in Sterile Processing.

Instrument Technician certification through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within 24 months of employment or Was employed or otherwise contracted for services as a central service technician in a healthcare institution before January 1, 2017.

1.One year current Sterile Processing experience. 2. One year leadership experience. 3. Advanced ability to identify, assemble, decontaminate instrumentation 4. Mentor new staff when needed 5. Intermediate Outlook, Excel, Windows, and Word specific skills

They also function as a liaison between Surgery and SPD staff providing training and education to both areas. Inventories instrument shelves for needed instruments for their service line.
