Per Diem - Variable Shifts POSITION SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of Sterile Processing Manager, the Sterile Processing Aide is responsible for pick-up, cleaning of instrument containers and case carts, and distribution of clean case carts to OR (Operating Room) holding area. This position is also responsible for re-taping of color coding instruments, wrapping textile packs, putting supplies away, and checking the peel pack par levels.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education or Formal Training 1.### High school student or equivalent preferred 2.### 18 years old or above Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) None Knowledge, Skill and Ability 1.### Good communication and comprehension skills, both verbal and written 2.### Ability to lift and move trays of instruments up to 25 pounds 3.### Ability to lift trays of instruments above the head, push and pull carts to and from surgery to SPD (Sterile Processing Department), walk, and stand for long period of time. See Working Environment/Physical Activities for more information. 4.### Ability to maintain required level of confidentiality Experience None MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED Standard equipment including: telephone, instrument trays, peel pouch machine, sterilizers, computer, and transfer carts WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES 1.### Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: high pressure steam, chemical, electrical, mechanical, bio-waste, stress, back strain, body fluids, etc. 2.### Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variances in temperature, noise, odors, multi-stimuli, etc. 3.### While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch, and twist.
The employee occasionally is required to kneel, squat, and sit. 4.### The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds; frequently support, push, pull and/or occasionally lift up to 30 pounds (for example, lifting a tray of surgical instruments). 5.### Functional physical demands include manual dexterity and fine motor skills and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smells and touch (i.e., tactile differentiation of temperature and moisture).
