Job Overview

The Sterile Central Processing Instructor will teach in MCHP's Associate in Clinical Health Sciences Program. This instructor will teach students seeking certification as a Central Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) as part of this degree program.

Summary of Expectations:

The instructor's primary responsibilities are to provide active and effective learning for students in all applicable educational settings, act as a professional and academic role model and commit to student success. This position requires the instructor to teach in a classroom and lab setting.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Teach central sterile processing courses utilizing a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students

  • Cover all material in depth and scope as described in the syllabus and utilize approved lesson plans

  • Select learning experiences and guide students in achieving desired outcomes

  • Participate in the evaluation process of students in achieving desired outcomes and maintain accurate and timely attendance records

  • Advise students with respect to the assigned course

  • Maintain academic expertise

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., AAMI, CDC, OSHA).

  • Knowledge of or capability to use educational technology (computer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.,)

  • Knowledge and understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds

  • Skills in effectively managing classes, including planning and student performance assessment

  • Skills in communicating well, both orally and in writing

  • Skills in effectively engaging critical thinking

  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform a variety of tasks under pressure

  • Ability to be self-motivated, self-directed, and work independently

  • Ability to adhere to principles of trust, integrity, teamwork, and positive collaboration

Education/Experience

  • Must be fully certified as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing department Technician (CSPDT) from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

  • Three (3) or more years of occupational (i.e. practical) experience as a Sterile Processing Technician

  • Willingness to work according to a flexible schedule (nights and weekends may be required)

  • Previous teaching experience highly desired

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college

  • A master's degree from an accredited university or college is preferred

  • Experience in course design, instructional delivery, and the elements of effective teaching and learning

  • Familiarity with Quality Matters

  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems
