Located in Foster City, Ronald C Wornick Jewish Day School is a pluralistic community day school for students from TK through 8th grade. We are a warm and welcoming community with a collaborative team focused on bettering our school, supporting our students and welcoming our families. Wornick Day School is seeking a STEM/math specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. The specialist will lead and support math instruction in the elementary school (1st through 5th grades) while collaborating with general studies teachers to design STEM lessons, projects, and assessments. We are seeking a teacher who is experienced in progressive educational environments with a concentration in the content area of math.
The STEM/math specialist will:
Design and teach engaging STEM lessons and unit plans under the supervision of the assistant head of school and with mentorship and direct support from the Director of Math and Peleh Lab Director (maker space)
Utilize Peleh Lab (maker space) resources to strengthen the school's innovation, coding, and robotics programs
Differentiate lessons effectively for diverse learners in the classroom
Support and collaborate with teachers in creating appropriate and engaging individualized work for students in support of plans created with parents, tutors, aides and specialists
Assess students' achievement and progress frequently and effectively to ensure grade level standards are being met
Document student learning to evaluate trends in learning as well as to support teachers in sharing assessment data with families
Lead math club and math teams as an extracurricular activity for upper elementary and middle school students
Create and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
Assist the administration in creating a respectful school environment in support of the behavioral and cultural policies of the school
Collaborate regularly with lower school colleagues to support student learning
Recognize parents as critical partners in student learning and utilize support services within the school
Use technology appropriately to advance learning goals
Attend all staff meetings and fulfill other duties assigned by the principal (recess duties, club supervision etc)
Receive and provide feedback in a professional manner with other school professionals
The ideal candidate will:
Have 5+ years of classroom experience as a lead classroom teacher
Have 3+ years of math/STEM leadership experience (coaching and mentoring experience desired)
At a minimum have a Bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred)
Have a California Teaching Credential (preferred)
Have experience with math/STEM program implementation in the 1st-5th grade level
Be familiar with progressive educational approaches (Project Based Learning, student centered classroom, flipped classroom, etc)
Have experience with Google Classroom, G Suite, and other LMS a plus
Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum design
Possess a love of learning and a passion for engaging students
Have experience differentiation for diverse classroom learners
Be a collaborative team member who will seek advice from peers and rely on the professional expertise of our administrators and support services
First aid/CPR a plus
Experience with independent schools a plus!
