About the Title V Grant:

In 2021, OLLU was awarded a 3-million dollar, 5-year, Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions (DHSI) grant, "A Comprehensive Approach to Improved STEM Education at OLLU", with the following three primary Action Plans designed to improve the quality of instruction in STEM disciplines: redesign of core STEM courses, provide STEM faculty extensive training/professional development, and create an EXL STEM Studio "makerspace" to facilitate hands-on active/collaborative experiential learning. In response to the U.S. Department of Education's (USDE) competitive preference priorities, OLLU's Title V HSI will increase STEM-centered community/industry internships and develop financial wellness modules for inclusion in the First Year Seminar and STEM courses to improve students' awareness and understanding of national and global economic factors.

Job Summary:

The STEM Internship Coordinator & Career Advisor position supports undergraduate and graduate students in the STEM programs, as well as university alumni by providing equitable career coaching services, facilitating professional skills development training, and coordinating career events, in collaboration with the university community and employer partners. In alignment with the Title V grant goals, the STEM Internship Coordinator will lead internship development efforts for STEM students.

Essential Functions:

1.Lead STEM internship development efforts by strengthening relationships with community/business/industry leaders, connecting STEM faculty and students with these leaders, and assisting with student placements.

2.Provide individual and group career coaching and exploration services to STEM undergraduate and graduate student populations, as well as university alumni; assign and interpret career assessments as appropriate.

3.Advise students on career planning, professional skills development, online tools, internships and other experiential learning opportunities, as well as job search and networking strategies.

4.Support the development and maintenance of CCDT partnerships with local, regional, and national employers.

5.Provide individual and group training related to resume development, interview skills, networking, business best practices, and other related career skill training.

6.Train students on how to set-up and maintain a Handshake account and link to the goals of the SEEK Transformation program; train appropriate university and employer constituencies on the platform and how to run reports.

7.Collaborate with faculty and staff to strategically market CCDT career and testing services to support student engagement.

8.Actively outreach, recruit, and prepare students in targeted majors to successfully participate in on-campus recruiting, information sessions, and other career-related events; seek collaborative partnerships with on-campus groups and faculty to best promote the services and events of the CCDT to targeted majors.

9.Seeks opportunities to learn and stay current with the latest trends of assigned industries and academic fields, such as knowing OLLU faculty in area, latest academic program updates, trends of the industry, internship and job opportunities available in field, graduate program and certification options in the field, etc.



  1. Provide relevant information on employment opportunities and labor market trends to students and alumni through the use of local, state, and federal resources (DOL, State of Texas, and San Antonio Economic Development forecasts)

  2. Support the management and promotion of internship and job postings, surveys, and career resources on Handshake (career database).

  3. Conduct outreach to current and prospective students and family members to promote the benefits of marketable skills, job market data, experiential learning, degree completion, and testing services.

  4. Assist in the collection and reporting of CCDT and Title V project data.

  5. Coordinate and implement career events such as career fairs, panels, workshops, information sessions, networking events, employer site visits, mentoring programs, and other related career/testing activities.

  6. In collaboration with the CSLV, provide support to any STEM service-learning classes as needed.

  7. Professionally represent Our Lady of the Lake University in interfacing/communicating with internal and external constituents and stakeholders.


Additional Responsibilities:

1.Assists with publicity of CCDT and Title V services and events.

2.Provides support at Lake Day Orientation, Camp Blue Nation, and other Student Affairs events.

3.Participates in other university activities and programs as requested and assigned.

4.Other related duties as assigned by the CCDT Director, Title V Project Director, AVP of Academic Affairs, AVP of Student Affairs, or VP of Student Affairs.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Exemplary organizational skills with particular attention to detail

  • Ability to consistently follow up with constituents and meet deadlines

  • Evidence of public speaking/presentation experience

  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents

  • Ability to learn and comprehensively utilize the Handshake platform

  • Knowledge of NACE resources and competencies

  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as necessary

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, Business, Marketing, Communication, Human Resource Management, or related field required (master's degree preferred)

  • Two years of experience in higher education student affairs or academic support and/or related industry experience required

  • Marketing, social media, partnership development, and/or program management experience preferred
