Steam Teacher

Duties

Position Summary

The Avery Coonley School is seeking an experienced middle school STEAM teacher. In close collaboration

with the Director of STEAM, the STEAM teacher will manage, develop, and deliver innovative

programming to students in K-4. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience fostering critical

inquiry through project- and problem-based STEAM education.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and present effective daily instruction

• Develop lessons that are engaging and grade level appropriate

• Challenge, guide, and counsel students in appropriate ways

• Communicate with parents in a timely manner and engage them in a partnership to support their children's education

• Keep clear and complete records

• Meet all deadlines for report cards, communications with parents, and other professional requirements

• Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, words, and actions

• Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited institution (science or STEAM); advanced degree preferred

• 3+ years of teaching STEAM education required

• Expertise in working with various maker space tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, GlowForge, etc.

• Experience with bright and gifted students

• Approachable and collaborative, possess effective communication and problem-solving skills

• Excellent writing and communication skills

• Excellent listening skills - able to listen to students and parents, understand and quickly respond effectively to their requests

• "Can do" attitude and ability to work as part of a team

• Willingness to develop differentiated learning experiences

• Ability to receive feedback and engage in continuous self-improvement

• Ability to adapt to a dynamic, rapidly changing work environment

• Ability to build positive relationships with all important constituencies

• Ability to work collaboratively and across teams, departments, and divisions

• Firm belief in personal accountability, producing measurable outcomes, and sustaining high expectations

Salary/Benefits

Annual salary $55,000 - $60,000 Dependent upon degree work and experience.
