Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for leading a specialized service unit providing science, technology, engineering, arts, and math programs, activities, workshops, events, and camps. These activities aim to develop problem-solving skills to achieve educational, vocational, and personal growth goals. The STEAM Coordinator is key in developing and adapting activities and programs to include various science, mathematical, and engineering concepts through an engaging and hands-on approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide respectful, professional, positive service in all interactions between co-workers, internal and external customers, community members, and the public.

  • Maintain a positive and productive environment, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the City, Department and Division.

  • Promote on-the-job safety. Contribute to a safe work environment by enforcing manufacturer's instructions for proper equipment use, directing personnel to wear protective gear, making on-the-spot corrections of unsafe work activities, investigating on-the-job accidents or injuries and reporting incidents to supervisors, and following standard industry safety precautions.

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of their programmed area, establishing and delegating tasks as necessary, under the guidance and oversight of a manager.

  • Develop and coordinate the administration of all Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) programs; initiate and coordinate activities to achieve departmental/program goals.

  • Guide individuals leading STEAM programming, including part-time staff assisting with groups, independent contractors, and volunteers.

  • Facilitate industry engagement and develop industry partnerships for STEAM-focused career pathways. Develop and coordinate orientations, seminars, and workshops to familiarize students with educational and career opportunities.

  • Using knowledge of STEAM programming, assist with program budgets to include staffing, supplies, and contractual expenses and revenues related to registration, grants, and sponsorships in compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • Maintain open lines of communication with internal and external stakeholders and address and anticipate program issues and concerns immediately.

  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with various organizations, non-profits, schools and colleges, institutions, and advocates for the purposes of collaborative programming, information sharing, advocacy, grants, and sponsorships.

  • Anticipate and quickly respond to emerging trends in recreation and resource management.

  • As required, provide technical expertise to team members and guidance to address functional objectives.

Typical Hours: Monday-Friday, 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Some weekends.

This is a part-time position, not to exceed an average of 29 hours per week.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require HR approval.
  • Experience in STEAM programming with direct eSports experience preferred.

  • First-aid/CPR certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment is required.

  • A valid drivers license is required.

  • Thorough understanding of the processes, protocols, and procedures used in administering STEAM programs, including planning and budgeting.

  • Ability to perform statistical analysis, keep budgetary records, and evaluate information against a set of standards.

  • Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, subordinates, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in the use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable, responsible and dependable.
