Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college serving over 4,800 people annually in credit courses and credit-free workshops. Known for the caring and supportive attitude of the faculty and staff, and for the broad support it enjoys from the surrounding community, the college is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. In addition to a strong Liberal Arts focus, the College offers a wide variety of innovative and successful programs including Gender and Women's Studies, Fine Arts, Nursing, Renewable Energy, and Outdoor Leadership, as well as varied learning environments, from traditional classrooms, to distance learning, peer tutoring, one-on-one faculty-student advising, workforce development, and learning communities that cater to specific needs and interests. Close to fifty percent of Greenfield Community College students transfer to four-year colleges, and it is Smith College's largest source of community college transfer students. Much of the College has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation that incorporates universal design principles to meet the needs of all our students. Job Description:

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Teaches course(s) in specific discipline. Responsible for instructional preparation and assessment of student performance. Provides assistance to students by appointment. Attends a limited number of faculty meetings.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires Master's degree or a Master's degree in progress in a related field.

  • Collegiate teaching experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful community college teaching experience

  • Commitment to the mission of the community college

  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting domestic diversity and/or global multiculturalism in the curriculum where appropriate.

ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking a full-time faculty colleague to join our Social Sciences department, who is committed to advancing the College's mission by delivering high-quality courses that feature engaged learning and curricula aligned to the needs of our students. The ideal candidate will have a background in Psychology as well as demonstrated expertise in a related field (e.g. a Social Psychologist who can teach psychology as well as introductory sociology, an Educational Psychologist who can teach psychology as well as education, a Counseling or Clinical Psychologist who can teach psychology as well as human services, etc.). The successful candidate will bring a passion and commitment to teaching, advising, and collaboration. We are particularly interested in faculty who bring a social justice perspective to social sciences in 21st century America. GCC is committed to promoting and valuing diversity. We seek a candidate who would bring valuable perspectives of underrepresented groups to our campus community. Job Description: GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: * Teaching Principles of Psychology and a range of other psychology courses (such as Research Methods, Statistics for the Social Sciences, Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Personality Psychology, Social Psychology, and/or areas of special interest); * Teaching in one other related discipline, according to experience and expertise (anthropology, education, human services, or sociology); * Participating in curriculum development, and assessment strategies in support of academic program review; * Providing academic advising for approximately 18 students; * Maintaining regular office hours; * Contribute to program student learning outcomes assessment activities; * Contribute to a positive, inclusive and collaborate learning environment; * Serving on college committees as elected or appointed; * Participate in regularly scheduled departmental, divisional, and college meetings; and * Performing other duties as assigned within the MCCC collective bargaining agreement. Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in psychology, or closely related field; * Successful experience teaching psychology at the college level; * Demonstrated online teaching experience, or demonstrated commitment to integrating technology and pedagogy; * Interdisciplinary expertise in a field related to psychology (anthropology, education, human services, or sociology); * Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities, needs, and concerns or community college students; * Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission; and * Commitment to fostering healthy collegial relationships within the department and throughout the college. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) with at least 18 graduate credits in psychology; * Experience with curriculum and program development in psychology; * Experience teaching college level courses in a field related to psychology; * Successful community college teaching experience; * At least three years' experience teaching a range of undergraduate psychology courses; * Demonstrated commitment to building academic-community relationships; * Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity and human rights issues; and * Commitment to professional growth and development. The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
