Under general supervision of the department manager and research team, provides analytic dataset and programming design, data management, and data extraction utilizing multiple data systems. Provide analytic and statistical support for research projects of moderate complexity.
May participate in multi- organizational research projects, working with other sites and running programs. Provide expertise in interpretation and use of health care data in research projects. Manage a workload of several projects and documents all project work. Responsible for mentoring new analysts or analysts who are new to the CHR.
Planning, Designing, and Advising on Research Analytics: Works with investigator and project team to determine the scientific research project requirements.
Negotiates performance expectations with customers and creates project work plans to match. Assists in research problem definition and propose possible resolutions. Uses knowledge of research methodology, data sources and technology to recommend solutions.
Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity, using judgment within defined policies and procedures; assesses information to identify the best solution from existing alternatives.Developing and Maintaining Research Analytics Processes: Develops programs and analytic datasets to support projects using multiple data systems and very large datasets. Employs data management and quality best practices and knowledge thereof in a standardized, transparent, and efficient manner.
Assumes responsibility as a partner for the planning, resourcing, and execution of timely internal and external data management activities. Reviews code with team members to ensure high quality results. Performs analysis, coding, testing, documentation and maintenance tasks for projects of moderate complexity.
Coordinates data transfers and data reconciliation. Complies with IRB approved protocols and applicable regulations.Communication and Support: Engages project staff and relevant CHR personnel in problem definition and solution finding.
Answers routine questions from statistical analysts, research associates, and research investigators on study data, analytical techniques and best practices in data use. Actively contributes to knowledge sharing efforts through engagement in team meetings, contributions to knowledge sharing tools, and cross training. Communicates findings to customers via presentations, reports, and meetings.
Generally recognized in publication and poster acknowledgements as co-author.Innovation: Exercises judgment to make decisions for less defined issues and selects methods and techniques for making decisions; notifies appropriate CHR subject matter expert of issues discovered in the data so that the issues can be resolved; works under limited direction and plans own activities to accomplish objectives. Performs other duties as requested.Documentation:
Documents processes, data structures, and data flows for research projects to ensure reproducibility and support for findings made as a result of the project.Leadership: Technical mentoring of new staff.
Minimum two (2) years in a research setting or working with health care data.
Minimum two (2) years of programming experience with SAS or SQL.
Bachelor's degree in mathematical, community health or social science disciplines.
License, Certification, Registration
Project management, including: work plan development, setting clear timelines, priority setting, being efficient, collaborative, candid, open, and results oriented.
Technical specification/documentation writing.
Familiarity with data flow diagraming and process flow diagramming using Visio or similar tools.
Proactive problem solver.
Customer focus, as well as a focus on what is best for the organization.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (1:1, peer, multi-disciplinary group, presentations, written).
Minimum four (4) years in a research setting or working with health care data.
Advanced degree in mathematical, community health or social science disciplines.
