Job Purpose: Provide guidance and leadership in the operation and maintenance of boilers and support equipment associated with the central steam heating and chilled water systems. Perform operation and maintenance as required. Assumes full responsibility full plant operations as assigned in the absence of the Superintendent.
Schedule and provide work direction in plant operations including preventive maintenance.
Operate and maintain components of boilers, hot domestic water, condensate systems, chiller, cooling tower and distribution systems including, pressure vessels, pumps, motors, piping, valves, strainers and/or controls.
Operate and maintain components of control system including electrical, pneumatic and/or DDC controls.
Prepare plant operating procedures as assigned.
Test and troubleshoot components of natural gas and/or propane burner and supply systems including burners, pumps, piping, valves, filters and controls.
May order and make purchases of materials and supplies using state issued purchasing card; reconcile purchase transactions.
Record, track and report operational and testing data and results.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: High School or GED Certificate
Work Experience: Five to seven years job related experience
Certifications: State of Georgia First Class Boiler License, Universal CFC Refrigerant Recovery License and Georgia Driver's License
This job requires master level skills in the operation, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, repairing, replacing, calibrating, testing and troubleshooting of generating and distribution system for heating and cooling. Working knowledge of computers, controls, electrical systems, utility services, reading drawing and specification, general construction practices, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting practices is also required.

Preferred Work Experience: N/A
Preferred Certifications: Advanced boiler operator or inspector license, formal training program completion in related field
Preferred skills include ability to operate and maintain building systems, machine tools, maintenance equipment, motor vehicles, hand/power tools, electrical/electronic instrumentation and light equipment.
Additional Information: The work environment involves exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations requiring extensive safety precautions. Work environment may include rotating machinery, live electrical circuits, high-pressure liquids and gas, and hot surfaces. May require lifting of objects up to 75 pounds. Requires accessing and working in confined spaces (manholes, vaults, pits including 12 x 16 oval man-ways), noise and climbing extension and other type ladders and scaffolding. May require wearing a full-face respirator in accordance with GT policies and procedures. When working in multi-craft environment may be required to direct others in boiler and chilled water operation and maintenance or to provide assistance in duties related to other crafts.
Impact & Influence: This position will interact on a consistent basis with: co-workers, vendors, suppliers, contractor personnel, engineers and environmental health and safety personnel.
