Job Description and Duties

Applications will be considered according to the established cut off periods of 05/29/24 and 06/28/24 candidates who are the most qualified will be invited to an interview. If a candidate for hire is identified during the first cut off period, candidates that file during the subsequent cut off period will not be considered.

This position is located in the San Francisco Bay Peninsula, as such an additional 5% pay for Bay Area Engineer (Local 39 MOU) will be granted.

Under the general direction of the Chief Engineer (CE) II, the Stationary Engineer inspects all heating and air conditioning equipment monthly in DMV state-owned offices; changes filters, belts, oil, and handles refrigerant; troubleshoots and repairs failed equipment independantly with minimal supervision; follows safety procedures and lock out tag out. The incumbent also uses proper Personal Protective Equipment, and electrical safety procedures; ensures proper air flow and temperature control are maintained in the building; replaces worn and defective parts, including motors, compressors and condensers; purchases parts as needed; supervises repairs, trains managers on proper operations of equipment; performs minor plumbing, cleans clogged drains, replaces defective valves, washers in faucets, and repairs small water lines breaks or leaks; repairs and replaces worn and broken floor and ceiling tiles; repairs and replaces worn or defective locks; makes minor patches in cement to prevent injury; performs minor electrical repairs; replaces lights, light switches, ballasts, etc.; and writes correspondence and prepares reports.

Desired qualifications: must be experienced in refrigerant recovery, evacuation, repair of refrigerant circuit components, and electrical troubleshooting.

A hands on exercise may be conducted following the job interview.

A CFC license is required.

The Salary Range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full-time appointment. Salaries for part-time and/or intermittent appointments may vary. Moving and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed for this position.

Working Conditions

Travel is required up to 50% of the time with overnight stays. Mileage, tolls, and parking fees will be reimbursed usingthe Travel Expense Claim process.

A State work truck will be provided to fulfill the Engineer duties.
