Job Description and Duties

Patton State Hospital Human Resources is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full Time Stationary Engineer. This vacancy exists in the Facility Operations Department and is under the direction of the Chief Engineer II.

Applicants must possess knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the engineering trade; current knowledge or relevant CalOSHA safety orders and California Building Standards Codes.

Applicant must possess the following knowledge and requisite experience: All qualified, interested journeypersons with experience and knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in HVAC, steam boiler operation, electric motor installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical building systems, digital and pneumatic temperature control systems, the ability to read blueprints, interpret plans and specifications, keep records and make simple reports, prepare rough sketches of mechanical installations and make estimates of materials and labor.

Additional requirements include ability to communicate both verbally and in writing good interpersonal skills, dependable, able to follow directions and complete assigned tasks, ability to work well with others and promote and maintain positive and effective work relationships.

Practical test may be administered during the hiring interview.

Working Conditions

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
