State Risk Underwriters assess the insurance needs of participating state agencies, recommending type and level of coverage and support the placement of commercial coverage as necessary within the Office of Risk Management (ORM), the Division of Administration agency that administers the statewide, comprehensive risk management program for the State of Louisiana. ORM is solely responsible for managing all purchased insurance and self-insured coverage for workers' compensation, property and casualty exposures, for all participating state agency, state higher-ed institution, board and commission clients. ORM is also responsible for managing all tort claims made against the State or its agencies; and serves as the State of Louisiana public facilities sub-recipient representative for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance Grants.

Currently, there is one vacant State Risk Underwriter position, and the successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting duties that include analyzing and assessing the exposure and loss experience associated with the State's most complex insurance coverages, including property, fine arts, and mechanical breakdown. The Underwriter reviews policy language for compliance with the proposed commercial coverage placements, and makes recommendations for coverage document amendments to self-insured coverage lines when necessary. The Underwriter provides increased levels of consultation on property exposure reporting and training at the agency level; and is responsible for oversight of all scheduled property appraisals, including review of interface uploads to the State's system of record.

State Risk Underwriter positions are part of a training series, and will receive special instruction provided to gain critical skills required to perform at the highest level of the series, including project management skills, advanced knowledge of property and casualty underwriting analysis techniques and general knowledge of state procedures and policies; and to exercise independent judgment and sound decision-making skills in performing their duties. Supervision received is by broad review from the State Risk Underwriting Manager in performing assigned responsibilities.
