About Our Agency

The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) is the state agency that plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of:

  • intellectual disability and related disabilities
  • autism spectrum disorder
  • traumatic brain injury
  • spinal cord injury and similar disability

This position is intended to serve as a Waiver Case Management Specialist; providing accurate and complete information to individuals regarding services and supports offered through the DDSN operated Medicaid waivers, efficiently coordinating the enrollment of individuals into DDSN operated Medicaid waivers, and bringing resolution to slots for individuals who have determined not to enroll.

The responsibilities include:

  • Contacting individuals pending enrollment in the DDSN operated waivers or in processing status to provide: notice of enrollment status, information regarding the DDSN operated waivers, and to offer choice of case management (CM) enrollment provider.

  • Coordinating transfer of individuals in pending/processing status to chosen CM enrollment provider.

  • Coordinating the enrollment of participants in the DDSN operated waivers.

  • Providing authorization support.

  • Processing waiver slot declinations.

  • Other case management functions as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree or graduate degree from an accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of experience working with the target population, including experience in the DDSN service delivery system. Knowledge of Medicaid State Plan and DDSN operated Home and Community Based Waiver services is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Able to interpret and apply policies and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively. Computer literacy. Able to exercise judgment and discretion and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of interagency case management principles and practices and familiarity with the populations served by DDSN (individuals with intellectual disabilities, related disabilities, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and similar disabilities) as well as available services/supports.

Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a (2) step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
