This position administers and directs the Vital Records and Health Data Development Section. This position has the primary responsibility of ensuring that the section responsibilities are carried out.

The position oversees the development and distribution of data files and statistical information derived from these data files while ensuring security and confidentiality of the information. The person provides methodological and procedural guidance to statistical staff in vital statistics, provide statistical consultation, and direct and participate in the enhancement of a statistical resources and referral system for department programs and local health department staff, the press, and other external customers. This person assists the Division in implementing the health information system specified by the Public Health Code. The position oversees the activities associated with the registration of vital events.

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience

Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 333 S Grand Ave, Lansing, MI 48933.  Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.

  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
