Basic Purpose/Job Function: Lead the newly integrated OU Startup Programs including program implementation, employee supervision, budget administration, policy and procedure creation, campus engagement, and relationship management of key local, regional, and national partners and stakeholders such as the Economic Development Administration, OKC Thunder Launchpad/StitchCrew, Norman Economic Development Coalition, Greater OKC Chamber of Commerce, etc.
Typical Functions May Include: Manage the overall implementation, administration, day-to-day operations and budget across the four OU Startup Programs (Startup Crucible, Startup Innovation Fund, Startup Launchpad, and Startup Incubator). Advise and mentor OU students, faculty, staff, alumni, etc interested in launching a business and supporting every stage of their early growth. Lead Startup Launchpad and Incubator including startup selection, program and partner coordination, investor engagement, facilities support, mentor connections, and more. Perform assignments and tasks which require specialized technical knowledge and skills around venture creation, program management, and startups including entrepreneurial coaching. Supervise and mentor employees and volunteers including hiring, firing, training, evaluating performance. Assisting in establishment of specific and long-range unit goals toward successfully launching more OU-affiliated startups. Traveling across Oklahoma as well as regional and national meetings as needed.
Risk Management: Creates and utilizes safety practices to protect the health and safety of OU Startup Programs personnel, participants, and property.
Supervision Received: Receives limited supervision by Tom Wavering, Executive Director of the Tom Love Innovation Hub.
Required Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree OR an equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:
Demonstrated oral and written communication
Decision-making, supervisory, training, and research skills
Advanced computer skills with wide knowledge of business software
Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
Strong initiative to solve problems
Special Requirements:Must be able to engage in repetitive motion and communicate effectively. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods and will be required to travel.
Master's Degree or above, and at least 24 months experience
Experience mentoring startups
Experience supporting entrepreneurial ecosystems
Higher Education working experience
Experience supporting business accelerators
Participating or leading incubator programs
Supervision: Supervises a staff of one to four full time employees, graduate students, and undergraduate students
