Position Summary:

STARBASE Topeka on Forbes Field is a Department of Defense STEM program designed to raise interest and improve the knowledge of at-risk youth in math, science, and technology. STARBASE is seeking an energetic candidate proficient in STEM, especially in the areas of robotics, rocketry, 3D printing, and the engineering design process. This position involves working with students in grades 5-12 in after-school STEM programs at area schools. Hours are typically 10 am-6 pm.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Requires strong STEM knowledge. Must have strong computer, technology, written, and oral skills.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Responsible for Academy and Instruction for STARBASE 2.0 Afterschool Program.

(Student grades 6-8)

  • Coordinates 2.0 curriculum and /or preparing related materials.

  • Assists with the development and coordination of 2.0 site academy schedules.

  • Attends all 2.0 meeting sessions at cooperating schools, these meetings are held after school.

  • Maintains STARBASE 2.0 equipment, and supplies and ensures proper usage and storage.

  • Occasional overnight travel regarding national STARBASE meetings and training as required, using the most effective means of transportation available. State-wide travel as needed to participate in staff development, program development meetings, and school visits.

  • Maintains technology updates and implementation

  • Creates and implements 2.0 program marketing.

  • Manages relationships with 2.0 schools.

  • Recruits/screens and manages 2.0 program volunteers (STEM Coaches).

  • Coordinates and delivers 2.0 volunteer training.

  • Tracks all 2.0 STARBASE data and completes all required reports.

  • Supports and motivates 2.0 program volunteers.

Responsible for Academy and Instruction for STARBASE 3.0 Program

(Student grades 9-12)

  • Coordinates 3.0 curriculum and /or preparing related materials.

  • Assists with the development and coordination of 3.0 site academy schedules.

  • Attends all 3.0 meeting sessions at cooperating schools/JROTC programs.

  • Maintains STARBASE 3.0 equipment, and supplies and ensures proper usage and storage.

  • Occasional overnight travel regarding national STARBASE meetings and training as required, using the most effective means of transportation available. State-wide travel as needed to participate in staff development, program development meetings, and school visits.

  • Maintains technology updates and implementation.

Public Information Development and Project Execution.

  • Assists the Site Director/Executive Director in implementing projects related to public information, fundraising, and other promotional activities.

  • Presents to educational, civic, legislative, or other organizations as assigned.

  • Assists the Site Director in planning and obtaining necessary equipment and supplies according to the 2.0 and 3.0 program needs and budget allowance.

  • Assists with Outreach and Supplemental programs.

  • Serves as an instructor for STARBASE 1.0 (5th grade) classes located at the appointed site when needed.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor`s degree in Education from an accredited College or University.

  • Licensing & Certification: Must possess a current teaching KDSE license/certificate as a condition of employment.

  • Minimum Qualifications: Three (3) years of teaching experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Must have strong organizational skills and an understanding of administrative procedures. Must be flexible and team-oriented with the ability to multitask.

  • Requires strong STEM knowledge. Must have strong computer, technology, written, and oral skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer five (5) years of teaching experience in elementary education or STEM-related field.

  • Required: Must have a valid Driver`s License and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Security Clearance as a Condition of Employment.
