Standards Engineering - Electrical Power Systems Engineer (Epse)

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. The incumbent in this position will research, develop, review, approve, and assist with production, publication, and training of design, material, and construction standards, and work practices.

Seattle City Light standards are important because they define the utility's best practices. Compliance with these standards is mandatory for all City Light employees, contractors, and suppliers.

This position will report to the Supervisor of Standards Engineering.

HERE IS MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

Research, develop, review, approve, and assist with production and implementation of:

Design Standards which are used by Seattle City Light's engineers to design the T&D system, Material Standards which establish the requirements for the material and equipment that we purchase and install, and Construction Standards which detail how to build our above and below ground, electric distribution system. Work Practices provide step-by-step instructions on how to perform a task.

Position holder will interview field personnel, engineers, manufacturer's representatives and sales engineers, senior standards personnel, and others in the field and the office. National industry standards, national, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations will be studied and applied.

Findings will be compiled, analyzed, and validated. Draft standards will be created and communicated to subject matter experts for review and comment, prior to final approval and publication.

Analyze, organize, and report field audit findings to staff. Meet with staff from other divisions to collect data and information.

Participate in and support Looped Radial and Network Standards Committee meetings.

Experience/Education: Requires six years of progressively responsible, difficult and highly complex or visible electrical power systems engineering experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional electrical engineering work on major electrical power systems.

Certification/License: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington

Desired Qualifications- You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

• Experience in working in an electrical utility environment.

• Experience in of standards engineering work: design, construction, work practices, and/or material & equipment.

• Experience in of design engineering work: overhead, underground, distribution, network, transmission, and/or stations.

• Excellent writing, speaking/communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• The ability to work independently and simultaneously manage multiple, highly detailed projects.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Familiar with Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, and simple image editing programs.

• A strong interest in learning new subject matter and sharing knowledge with colleagues. Familiarity with industry standards, such as IEEE, ANSI, ASTM, ICEA, AEIC, IEC, UL, NEC, and NESC.

The full salary range for this position is $61.16 - $71.79 per hour.
