Parkview Arts & Science Magnet High School is in search of a Stagecraft I, II and III theatre teacher! If you wish to work at the premier public arts magnet school in the state serving a diverse and engaging student body with a team of theatre educators, this position is for you!

JOB GOAL:

To structure the learning environment to enable students to master the technical elements of production (theatrical design, set construction. lighting and sound.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD's salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must meet Arkansas certification requirements in Drama and/or Speech or be willing to pursuit alternative certification or meet requirements for a Performing Arts technical permit with previous professional experience.

  • Willingness to lead production projects after school (with stipends available) while facilitating and maintaining an academically rigorous class load.

  • Willingness to participate in on-going staff development.

  • Ability to facilitate technical elements of production (theatrical design, set construction, lighting, and sound).

  • Ability to teach to differences and sensitivity to cultural differences.

  • Commitment to staff development and to apply new techniques in the classroom.

  • Demonstrates the conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District.

  • Willingness to help manage the scheduling and use of a 1,000 seat Performing Arts Center

  • Ability to collaborate with other theatre faculty on annual Theatre & Film Department projects and events.

  • Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

  • Ability to articulate student progress clearly to parents.

  • Evidence of curriculum planning & classroom management.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  • Theatre-specific understanding of design and implementation of sets, lighting, and sound for productions (making use of the elements & principles of design and color theory);

  • Mentoring and facilitating student crews;

  • Assisting with the execution of other faculty-led productions and events as assigned;

  • Teaching generalist theatre courses and other courses as assigned;

  • Assisting with the execution of other faculty-led productions and events as assigned;

  • Creating engaging lesson plans and meaningful hands-on projects to inspire, challenge, and inform. See the Arkansas Standards for Technical Theatre HERE.

  • Managing classroom behavior & tasks;

  • Planning and organizing production logistics;

  • Mentoring students in the years leading up to adulthood.

  • Structures the classroom for cooperative learning activities.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at the designated location and time.

  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.

  • Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.

  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

  • Assesses the accomplishments or students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulation.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in a fair and just manner.

  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
